According to a reporter for
Newsweek I saw on Court TV a week or so ago, there are a lot of folks in that community who think those three men should be convicted, guilty or not, in order to make up for past racial injustices.
If that's the case, I'd like to know how those folks can excuse turning around and doing to someone else what was done to them.
I heard on the news that applications to Duke are down 20%. In that kind of atmosphere, I wouldn't send a kid down there, either.

As far as I am concerned, Duke school officials are part of the problem. They were just as complicit at railroading these boys, as this DA was.
With no evidence, they tried and convicted their own students. They cancelled the Lacrosse season, the coach was forced to quite, they kicked two of the boys out of school.
School officials denied these boys their civil liberties because they were terrified of the black communities reaction.
All of that on the word of this so-called victim. The victim seems to have a problem telling the truth, and now the DA has the same problem.

In that kind of atmosphere, I wouldn't send a kid down there, either. . . . and that is doubly true since Duke headed for the tall grass at the first sign of trouble. But for sure you have to wonder about a Bonfire of the Vanities hazzard if you go to any inner city school.

"I heard on the news that applications to Duke are down 20%. In that kind of atmosphere, I wouldn't send a kid down there, either." Oh Hell no! Why would a parent want to send their child to an area where blacks want to have innocent whites prosecuted to avenge past crimes against blacks? Maybe Duke should modify its recruiting prospectus: "And we proudly offer all of our white students the opportunity to hire expensive lawyers and a chance to serve hard time for crimes they didn't commit. We are a dedicated affirmative action educational institution here at Duke and in our beloved partner community of Durham."

Who can blame them for taking that view. It's the basis for affirmative action and the many "diversity" policies that follow -- and, blessed by the Supreme Court as both necessary and appropriate.
The American political left has always favored discrimination -- all that changes is which ethnicities are to be favored at a particular time in history.

The Sewer of Durham doesn't deserve Duke. The university should be disassembled and moved elsewhere.

I would not say a lot. There are more than a few that feel that way, but those numbers have dropped quite quickly. Now the liberals over in Chapel Hill are a different story. I work for a small, but very liberal, company in the area and there are still a good number that refuse to believe the facts before them. Outside of the office I do not think I have met anyone that believes the charges anymore. But most of the local media, it seems at least, has started to turn against Nifong
As for the Rev. Barber, I do not think even he fully believes what he is saying anymore.
