End of the neo-con dream
BBC News ^ | 21 December 2006 | By Paul Reynolds

The neo-conservative dream faded in 2006.

The ambitions proclaimed when the neo-cons' mission statement "The Project for the New American Century" was declared in 1997 have turned into disappointment and recriminations as the crisis in Iraq has grown.

[snip]

The neo-conservatives were called that because they sought to re-establish what they felt were true conservative values in the Republican Party and the United States.

They wanted to stop what they felt were the isolationist tendencies that had developed under President Clinton, and even under the pragmatic President George Bush senior.

They saw the war in Iraq as their big chance of showing how the "New American Century" might work.

They predicted the development of democratic values in a region lacking in them and, in that way, the removal of any threat to the United States just as the democratisation of Germany and Japan after World War II had transformed Europe and the Pacific.

The wet dream of the left continues.

No surprise that the left wing BBC would go orgasmic over an opportunity to bash the USA.

In fact look for the Corination of Caligula Pelosi to be a further sign for the BBC.

(I smell the friends of Hitlary Clinton)

If it's got someone's name on the byline, it tends to be more analysis rather than straight 'reporting'.

So, according to this trash from across the pond, both Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton were neocons to some degree. What pathetic nonsense.

They wanted to stop what they felt were the isolationist tendencies that had developed under President Clinton, and even under the pragmatic President George Bush senior.

Bush came into office with the promise of reducing nation building efforts and the number of military liaisons with other countries both of which had grown under Clinton.

Pull the troops out of Iraq if you want to, pull them out of Afghanistan if thats your new plan. The war will not end, it will just move to a new battlefield.

Your choices are to define the battlefield yourself, to the degree that you can, or let the enemy have a monopoly on defining the battlefield.

But don't imagine that the war ends because you quit fighting. Don't imagine that the killing stops because you stop killing the killers.

And don't imagine that calling someone "manichean" is an argument against notions of right and wrong.

Opinions coming from a nation so weak it surrendered to Brussels are of no use to a great nation such as the United States of America.

Its high time england shuffled off into much deserved irrelavance, as we fix its meddling ways of the last few hundred years. Iraq anyone ? Remind us who forced that artificial nation on its people, with its borders drawn up by some limp wristed british diplomat ?

Neo-Conservatism began long before Clinton. To start to tell the history during his presidency, it to indicate you really don't know who the original players were or what were there concerns.

revisionism to support the mess left by the British empire.

Remember the British screwed up Iraq.

The British screwed up Cyprus (and still have soveriegn bases on the Island)

The BBC is spining to portray the incompetence of Madalin Albright as good. They LIKE! Jimmy Carter.

Whatever is bad for freedom and liberty makes the BBC happy.

This story will pop up on all the Lexis/Nexis searches now.

This is manipulation right in there with Owell's 1984.

Sid vicious Blumenthal rides again.

Exactly. Why diegn to bother with obvious blather?

"Neo-con" died as a perjorative term for enemies of liberal thought when it was discovered that there is no such thing as "liberal thought".

It rapidly became shorthand for "smart guys who just will whip yer ass with reason and bullet-proof logic and make you look like a drooling commie fool".

It made a nice and somewhat gritty counterpoint to the thoughtful "think pieces" that Victor Davis Hanson launches, all chock full of classical allusions and PHD kissup talk.

"Its high time england shuffled off into much deserved irrelavance, as we fix its meddling ways of the last few hundred years."

Yeah good luck with that. It's somewhat ironic that you espouse such views, while supporting your own 'great nation' in undertaking a similar role in today's world. And while your own countries soldiers are (together with thousands of British troops) still engaged in attempting to maintain the integrity of the 'artificial nation' of Iraq.

ADD:

Let's not be too harsh on the Brits. Afterall, where else could we turn for Benny Hill reruns and the musings on world events from the "leftovers",underclass, midget tossers and self-inflated posers like them?

Besides, like monkeys, they are so cute when they are little.
