What presents a particular challenge to the meaning Patrick's election are the survey's responses on policy issues, based on race. African-Americans mentioned crime, education, and jobs as by far their top three priorities. The top three for Latinos were education, crime, and jobs, followed closely by immigration. The top three for Asian-Americans were education, jobs, and healthcare.
But for white residents, the top three were education, taxes, and health care.
The showstopper is taxes.
"Taxes" has become a code word for "we got ours, forget the rest of you all." "Taxes" avoids real discussion of white privilege. "Taxes" avoid s how old-line white families were able to transfer wealth and property during slavery. "Taxes" avoid s recognizing how white families, whether old-line or new immigrants, were able to experience a 20th century of upward mobility through home ownership and quality public education while black people needed, but did not get federal protections from voting, housing, and job discrimination until the 1960s. And after only a brief moment in historical terms, remedies such as affirmative action, even voluntary affirmative action, are about to become history.

Note the differences in White vs. Black perception not only on "racisim" but also what the issues are that trouble them most.
This is probably typical of a "liberal" electorate. For example how about this paragraph:

This association of racism with taxes as an issue is also why "conservatives" do so poorly with Blacks in general elections. The idea is "what is mine is mine but what is yours is mine too in the highest tradition of egalitarianism.

Well, if you've been told that the only way you're getting ahead is a government handout, then yeah, a tax cut would be threatening.
However, all good conservatives know that all the social programs in the world can't fix a subculture whose goals include ignorance, crime, unwed intercourse and child rearing, and early death. Sadly, with only few notable exceptions, many black people associate being "black" with being a member of this "gansta rap" culture. They've elevated the word "n*gger" to a term of endearment after modifying the pronunciation only slightly.
As the Civil Rights movement gained momentum in 1960, the black prison population was roughly the same percentage as the general population, but now it is around 65%. Expenditures on our justice system weigh heavily on our government, considering the costs of police patrol, prosecution, incarceration, lost productivity, and the price of replacing people and property destroyed by crime.
Sadly, this culture gives us a disproportionate number of single female heads of households, and accounts for a huge number of our abortions. Such a culture leads to unhealthy living, which puts a strain on our health care system. And, sadly, education isn't a prized entity, and the costs of ignorance are staggering.
Who freed the slaves?
The Union Army comprised overwhelmingly of white men. If they get reparations, I want compensation for deaths and injuries incurred in freeing their butts.
"Z" is sixty some years too late he could have been in the propaganda dept of Joe Goebels and Co.. I'll vote for anyone who will stick a boot up "Z"'s sorry butt and shut up his "white privilege" hate mongering.
We live in a society where whites are always guilty until proven innocent. And they can never prove themselves innocent.

Note to Z-man: My family had absolutely nothing to do with slavery. I am probably upper-middle class. So why are you castigating me? All I can say is, quit your whining. Look at folks like Michael Steele, Michael Caine, Condi Rice, Colin Powell, and Ken Blackwell. They all have black skin, in case you have not noticed. Oh, but most of them are conservative, so they do not put up with all the liberal whining that the Dem/Libs actually solicit in order to attain and maintain power.
For as long as the "Jesse Jacksons", Al Sharptons, Louis Farrakhans and the incompetent rabble rousers American blacks have elected to the "Black Congressional Caucus" - race relations in America will certainly go from bad to worse..
There is no solution to a "culture" that thrives on "victim hood" and propagates at a rate greater than 70% illegitimate births.

Why, yes. Men from Northern cities like Boston, to which blacks flocked in the 20th century to escape alleged Southern racism, a puerile Jim Crow culture requiring federal oversight in the voting booth and schools.
After nearly burning Boston to a cinder during days of rioting, these same refugees from the South now see themselves surrounded by Northern racism. Maybe the problem isn't Whitey's.
If crime, education, and jobs are the first priorities among the inner city as well it can be seen only by practice, avoidance and no interest and in that order.
These are not things that government can simply provide but things which require direct effort, reward and diligence.
I've no use left for these folk who go around excusing the worst and begging the best.
It looks like Mr Jackson has some 'splainin to do regarding "paying one's fair share".
Maybe the reason only one group is concerned about taxes is because only one group is paying taxes.

To know what the importance of racial identity is to any particular race group in America, look at interracial rape.
Mr. Jackson, would you keep an accountant who took no pains to minimize your taxes?
Perhaps taxes is a "code word" to the author. To most taxpayers, it represents money taken out of their pockets under the threat of force. Knowing that tax money is too often given to people who did not earn it adds insult to injury.
It is my experience that people who try to turn ordinary, easily understood English words into "code words" are themselves likely to hide behind euphemisms and verbal evasions. In short, they are the ones prone to use "code words."
Shouldn't that be "white and Asian privilege," Mr. Jackson?
In case you have not noticed, Asians have done very well in this country, at least as well as whites. And yes, Asians have experienced bigotry, hatred, and exclusion, both de facto and de jure. Perhaps you should examine how they have managed to succeed—before demanding more taxation on productive people.
The white liberals want to go on the record that they don't hate.
They must be disappointed to be hated in return.
