It was Christmas Eve 1881. I was fifteen years old and feeling like the world had caved in on me because there just hadn't been enough money to buy me the rifle that I'd wanted for Christmas. We did the chores early that night for some reason. I just figured Pa wanted a little extra time so we could read in the Bible.

This is one of the best Christmas stories that I have ever read. I posted it last Christmas and received so many favorable comments that I decided to Post it again this year. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas to all.

I had a big lump in my throat and as much as I hate to admit it, there were tears in my eyes too.

That was wonderful! I get depressed and out of sorts this time each year and that really lifted my spirits.

It was 1963 and my Pa wasn't much for readin the Bible ,but
he did try to live and teach us the Biblical principles--
i.e don't commit murder, don't steal, don't lie, respect others and their property etc. We spent the Christmas week
at somebody's ranch taking care of his place. My pa sent me out to bring in some firewood -and I was crying because
I thought we would have NO Christmas that year. Out in the
woodpile was my first .22 small varmit rifle. I was thirteen and knew then my dad thought I was old enough to learn how to be a man.
