A court in the Chinese capital Beijing has convicted human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng of incitement to subvert the government and sentenced him to a three-year prison term, with a five-year reprieve and a suspension of political rights for one year. The reprieve means Mr Gao may be released from prison on a type of probation lasting five years. The suspension of political rights will prevent Mr Gao from talking to journalists.

Mr Gao had criticised the Chinese government in a number of interviews and articles in foreign publications. He was arrested in August after repeated confrontations with the authorities. Mr Gao is an outspoken critic of human rights abuses in China. He has defended a number of dissidents and complained about police brutality against activists.

Can we do this with the DNC?

Can we do the same thing to the U.N controlled farce known as the 'human rights association'? Arrest them for inciting hatred toward Israel and the U.S? Try them, then execute them? Please please please? http://sacredscoop.com

The Chinese government is caught in an untenable position.

There is a huge amount of speech going on in China, but they want to limit speech that has to be interpreted as "incorrect". It's not only a waste of their time and difficult as all hell, but it is counterproductive, since most of the time it doesn't end up banning "dangerous" (by Chinese lights) speech, but just speech someone else whimsically doesn't like at the moment.

They want to stop democracy, but even the most rural peasant has heard of the concept of "voting", as in "voting for it". It drives government officials nuts when every time there is a discussion, somebody chimes in, "Hey! Let's vote on it!"
The government has even had to ban TV shows that involve voting. But try and explain why voting is wrong. It sounds like you are calling everybody but yourself an idiot.

And it goes on and on. Western companies are paying communist party workers who travel from village to village to pass out free samples of their products.

Hopefully, eventually, enough people in power will finally say, "Aw, to heck with it." The only drastic change will be that everything works a lot better, and the universe is more in balance.
