CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - A Marine Corps squad leader was charged Thursday with 13 murder counts stemming from the killings of 24 civilians in the Iraqi town of Haditha last year, his attorney said.
Staff Sgt. Frank D. Wuterich was charged with 12 counts of murdering individuals and one count of murdering six people by ordering Marines under his charge to "shoot first and ask questions later" when they entered a house, according to charging sheets released by defense attorney Neal Puckett.
As many as eight Marines could be charged in the case, the biggest U.S. criminal case to emerge from the war in Iraq in terms of people killed.
The deaths occurred on Nov. 19, 2005.
Lawyers for two Marines already have said they expect their clients will be charged and its believed up to six others could join them.

These images could be hyperlinked to any url: the Warrior Fund, the Iraq Marine Defense Fund, or the Defend Our Marines page.
I tried to make these different from the usual graphic ads. The words aren't perfect and the design is not strong, but what do you think of the concept? My skin is strong. The only thing that matters is that these draw people in.
One thing I do like is the direct appeal of "Please help defend our Marines".
I like them.. I vote for number 1!
If you want to use it as is, be my guest. Anyone could save the image and do the hyperlink routine. Improvements will unfortunately have to wait for tomorrow night.
Also, I had an idea for a letter on the train home tonight but need to type it up. If you have any ideas, we can swap drafts tomorrow.
Ok, to both the letter and the graphic. I have to finish an article first. THen on to the letter. We can touch base tomorrow. Thanks these really are great!
And another thing. Wish I could find an e-mail for Meagan Kelly (formerly Kendall) at Fox. She's a lawyer who does spots on shows. I may just drop off a letter at the Fox Studio.
Yep. Bet THIS guy writes a real 'unbiased' story.
HA! Jobs as Western journalists must be second only to positions as "human rights activists" as growth industries in Iraq.
Hiya, Red. I like one and three the best. They're up close and personal. You do good work, OOHRAH!
Thanks, jaz! Have a great night.
Nite! Hi Jaz!
G'Night, ya'll. :-)
I dig it..I dig it all. They are powerful, strong and dark.
Tatum's black and white is apple pie...all American.
Thank you! I have to go so I can look again!
People seemed to like the letter okay so I emailed it to every show news show listed at Fox News. If it was an address for a general show, I addressed it to "Fox News producers".
I also went on CNN.com and wrote e-mails to Anderson Cooper 360 and Larry King Live. I couldn't think of any other shows that would do a decent job with these guests.
On CNN, you have to fill in a comment form, but you can write a whole letter in the box. (I just got a delivery confirmation back from 360.
Just so everybody's clear, our Pop has said he's ready to do publicity. His group has made contact with the S. family.
Any one of you has just as much right to suggest the guests as I did. I hope you might e-mail some shows, local or national. If using my basic format works for you, fine. Otherwise, improve it at will!
I'm posting all this here because it's the best, fastest way to get us all on the same page.
Again, super man. I am so glad that USMCPOP accepted your offer.
