The Portland Police Bureau report, released Wednesday, said Detective Michael Weinstein immediately relayed that information the evening of Dec. 2 to the Oregon State Police, which headed the investigation into the San Francisco family's disappearance.

BK, she said herself that she was distracted by being carsick when being given an important tip that turned out to be accurate, and she did basically ignore that tip and others. I agree that she was confused, as well, didn't understand the entirety or fine points of what needed to be done. Also didn't delegate (perhaps had nobody she could trust) and may not have conveyed the import of her call to her boss who was watching the football game.

In her case, this is not hindsight, the info was there to be had and was not utilized or followed up. Anybody who ignores firsthand info from the locals in a situation like this just doesn't get it. Instead, she was fixated on one tip from a coworker of her husband's who thought the Kims had driven safely out of the area.

Coordinating a response to an emergent situation is no piece of cake for anyone, but if the basic info isn't collected, the whole things veers into the wrong direction. Sarah R. was the first to say she was totally out of her league, had no idea what was going on, etc. That is not acceptable for a Coordinator of Emergency Services, and Josephine County has lots of 'splaining to do.
