I'd like to hear about the different Christmas Day and Eve traditions of freepers. We always vow not to repeat Thanksgiving Day, but usually end up with the whole roasted turkey and trimmings event -- plus some fresh Florida seafood, more desserts than usual, etc.
Our favorite tradition is slamming the door in the face of the liberal side of the family!
New Mexcio tradition is posole, pork tamales with red chile, and green chile chicken stew... among other things.
From my late Dad, a pork crown roast with sausage stuffing.
Always wanted to ask: Are you a descendent of Jeff Davis's wife or is that your real name?
Oh my, how I love Christmas tamales. Do you know of any mail order place to get some really, really good ones?
Eat, open presents, eat. Pretty much that same year after year.
Unfortunately no, we either roll our own of get some from one of the old line family restaurants.
I'm not a descendant -- that I'm aware of, but I wish I was. She was just a lady I greatly admire.
I'm an Irish kid originally from Brooklyn, but my husband taught me about the tradition of tamales for Christmas that he got used to while living in the Southwest. I've actually mastered the art of making them and now we have them every Christmas.
Sorry about my earlier post on liberals. We really do slam the door though...Anyway, my kids open one gift per hour maximum. This because when I was a kid we tore through everything in 30 minutes. We'd lose parts to toys in the trash, it was fun but un-appreciative. Christmas was over by 8am. Now, it lasts well past 4 or 5 and my kids take time to appreciate everything one at a time.
Gabz, recipe please!
My wife never fails to fix a green bean casserole, always topped with French's French Fried Onions.
What a great idea!!!!!!
Scalloped potatoes and a roast ... aaaaand we used to do pickled peaches whenever we could find 'em ... but we found some for Thanksgiving, so hey!
Filet of beef with Stilton and/or horseradish sauce. Potatoes Dauphinoise and steamed asparagus with lemon zest.
The green bean casserole is obligatory at our gatherings. My Dad used to get a bushel of fresh oysters to shuck in his "carryin' on house" in the backyard, too -- lots of fun.
Christmas Eve Eve: We throw a Christmas Party because people don't have Christmas Parties near Christmas.
Christmas Eve: Church followed by a visit from my good friend Johnny Walker.
Christmas Day: Country Ham and Eggs with biscuits, Oyster Stew, One Bloody Mary
