The U.S. Justice Department and the FBI are looking into 12 police-involved shooting deaths in DeKalb County, according to a letter from Assistant Attorney General Wan J. Kim.

The letter, dated Dec. 12, was sent to John Evans, president of the DeKalb-based human rights group Operation LEAD, in response to a fax sent to the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division. Evans provided a copy of the letter to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"The Department is currently gathering information, in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, concerning the DeKalb County shootings," the letter reads.

I believe this guy John Evans was Cynthia McKinney's campaign manager. This is the district that kept electing McKinney.

At the end of the article it mentions that a police officer was killed during the period of time in question. Some of this district is just dangerous territory.

I believe I would much rather be a Marine in Iraq than a cop in Atlanta.

This area incorporates a small portion of Atlanta that sits in DeKalb County.

There have been the usual marches, protest blather from the local race pimps over the unusually large number of shootings. None of the shooting have been found out of line thus far. Yell loud enough and the Justice Dept is ready to step in like big brother.

I was in Buckhead a few months ago and thought I was going to be jacked in the freakin' Marriot. I stay clear of Atlanta.

Thank MARTA for the efficient way it spreads crime around Atlanta.

Which feeds into the corridor that goes into Lenox Square Mall. I used to work in the building next door. I have had merchants tell me that every day someone would snatch an item and run down to the train.

I lived in "Kirkwood" for seven years! Just moved back to TN a little over a year ago. I grew to love the ATL, but it is a crazy city...fo real!

Yep. I think there was a game of some sorts going on that day as well. Lots of vagrants around that Lennox Square mall there.

John Evans was/is the NAACP Chairman for DeKalb County.

Enough said.
