Egg-toss prank turns deadly in Ohio
Comcast News via AP ^ | 19 December 2006 | Andrew Welsh-Huggins

COLUMBUS, Ohio - It was the sort of commonplace misbehavior that raises blood pressure across the nation's roads: kids, out after midnight, egging cars along a busy thoroughfare.

This time, though, the mischief turned deadly. The driver of a targeted gray Jeep barreled after the boys and someone inside pulled a gun, firing multiple shots that killed 14-year-old Danny Crawford.

Police are still seeking the gunman more than two weeks after Crawford's death. They have interviewed the Jeep's owner but aren't saying if that person is a suspect.

"14 year old Danny"
written in such a way as to elicit the maximum sympathy for the creep.
Killing the egger creep went a bit too far, but there should have been some physical re-education involved.

True, I know lots of people who talk tough that do just that, talk.

"What logic. Oh, you're a browns fan, that 'splains it. Too much acid in the water. Dennis kukukucinich, step-on-me tubbs...lunatic fringe?"

And in the face of logic you revert to juvenille personal attacks. Way to go genius.

Which comes last: the paint job or the egg?

Sometimes a person's only purpose is to serve as a warning to others.

In reality, it's Phoroshoric Acid as a presearvitive that is the culprit. Look for it on the label. Some peanut butter, etc. has it. FYI

They should just throw his sorry butt in jail and keep him there until he makes a deal.

Or charge the other egg throwers with felony murder.

How exactly is an egg a missile?

Thanks. I'll lay off the peanut butter and bologna sandwiches.

When it is being thrown.

Excellent!

And it is so much kinder and gentler than keying. ;)

Exactly, men as violent, and hard nosed as the guys on this thread claim to be, have histories, because it is revealed in the way they live, and the way they see life.

Like I said, when a 30 or 40 plus aged man keeps telling you how harshly he would deal with an imaginary situation, then ask him how that has been evidenced so far in his life.

A man that wants to gun down a 14 year old boy for throwing eggs, has a violent history he can point to, unless of course he is a lying keyboard commando.

Most who own guns would not shoot at authorities. It is the lunatic fringe that would shoot to keep their weapons. Their exctinction would shortly follow their attempt to hold onto their weapons in the face of a superior force.

Two words: Lexington & Concord.

But really, anybody, children included, can easily see that throwing rocks, especially big ones, at cars is going to result in damage. OTOH, most would not expect water balloons, eggs or snowballs to do any actual damage.

It's the kind of stupid thing that boys will do for a little entertainment, usually with no more harm than some startled drivers. But as your example shows, sometimes it can result in damage and/or a serious accident. So I wouldn't write it off as mere "pranking" and would agree that kids should be punished for it, but it certainly doesn't deserve a death penalty.

A woman got very nasty with me because I accidently bumped her car with my car door as I was getting out and no damage was done.

And, in the interests of full disclosure, I'll admit to throwing snowballs at cars a few times when I was a kid. Like most kids, we didn't think through the consequences of our actions. If I'd been caught I'd have richly deserved the ass-kicking I would have gotten from my dad. At least we had the sense(?) to throw our snowballs from a place where we couldn't be seen and could make an easy escape if chased.

You never know how a driver will react. A few anecdotes from the day. We unwound the rubber banding from a golf ball and stretched it across the street. Lo and behold, some dude on a Honda 200 (or so) comes jamming down the street and man, did that sucker stretch prior to snapping. The dude stopped and looked around with a PO'd look on his face but then rode on. Another incident, we had a water balloon shooter and were free firing in the general direction of a road that was about 3 or 4 streets away. Aparently we hit some guy and he came looking for us, chasing us for hours as we hid in the bushes and hopped fences to escape. Who knows what this latter person might have done if he caught up with us? Looking back I thank God I survived my youth.

I agree, it'd be fun to watch that episode But the Phosphoric acid as the preservative is what's eating the paint, no myth there.

A little background:

In the Columbus area, there has been a number of incidents in the past 8 or so years that involved objects thrown/dropped on automobiles from overpasses and of course the "Freeway Shooter" case that claimed the life of a local woman.

Folks tend to be a bit jittery around here given those recent events.
