Short summary of a Spiegel article:
After a private organisation of expelled persons who had to leave former eastern Germany in 1945 started a lawsuit against Poland for compensation, the Polish foreign minister, Mrs. Anna Fotyga said that Poland want to negotiate the treaty concerning the boarder. She obviously is backed by the Polish Prime minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski. Mr. Kaczynski said, that in Germany there is absolute stubbornness about to take on the liability of such lawsuits against Poland.

So if "tak" means "yes", and "nie" means "no", then how do you say "I don't know"?

"Personally I believe that the Polish administration would be well advised not to take those things too serious"
Take a look at my beloved Erikka, her latest comments I heard seem to be really diplomatic and If things have always been this way, the whole issue would look completely different, but they weren't, a few years ago she and her buddies from the union were against Poland in EU unless we pay them compensations and in 89\90 they were even against... accepting the current border. Why the change ? Because of Polish "irrational", "nationalistic" and of course very "uneuropean" reactions. It is similar with Germans and the German government, you may say that the government and most of people don't support these claims, but why ? Because they are wrong ? Or maybe rather because of fear of the mess that would provoke ?
German government doesn't support these claims, but that's not enough. Nobody here is saying that the German government should pay them and If will pay them or not is not our business, but German authorities should accept these claims as internal German problem, just like we did with Poles expelled from the east, so that wouldn't be any "gift", but a really logical and quite obvious step, which should have already been done years ago. How a legal construction should look like in this case ? I've got no idea, but that's the third rate problem. I believe that all you need is the law no. XXY saying that Germany is accepting these claims as a German internal problem and the law no. XXZ saying that any compensations shouldn't be paid, because they have already been paid once and so on. So what's the problem ? Your Angela said openly that she doesn't see any need for this kind of agreement even when was offered the same from Polish side (about any potential Polish claims). So what's the reason ? For fans of conspiracy theories German government only says that doesn't support these claims, but reality is different. I'm not one of them, so in my opinion the German government simply cares more about a few hundred thousand voters, who in many cases will be dead before the next elections than about Germany's second biggest neighbor and that's why I've got nothing against Polish "irrational" reactions and instead of giving us "lessons" and telling what's "European" and what's not Germans should better clean own closet.
On this issue despite of a few not very smart and professional speeches we are simply right and Germany and Germans (not only a few "Prussians") are simply wrong. And that "twins" are idiots doesn't change anything either, so I would expect a little more sophisticated opinion from you than stuff about "terrible twins", which you wrote under this thread and which looks like copy and past from a German press.

My granddad was offered to join the Patton's army after his officer camp had been liberated. He decided to return to Poland, straight into the hands of Polish communist butchers of the secret police.==
Patton army liberated the officer camp with polish officers in 1945? Where it laid? It is new for me. I really thought that at 1945 there were no more polish officer camp since Poland was defeated in 1939. On same reason there were not french officer camps in 1945. May be you confusing something?

I understand that you cannot understand that German Wehrmacht created camps for Polish officers, POWs captured in September 1939. The Soviet Union, Russia is the legal successor of, rather didn't build camps for Polish POWs. USSR did it the old Bolshevik way - a bullet to the back of the head.==
All right you have a point. But just 2 corrections.
Russia is the legal successor of USSR only in few international treaties in which Russia took such succesorship. It is the debts of Soviet Union in exchange of all the actives of Soviet Union, the disarmament treaties and UN treaties. That is all. Russia wasn't such stupid to burden herself with all piles of shit which was done by nonrussian communists during 73 years.
USSR in 1939 did shoot polish officers (40000 as they say today) but let go home about 1 mln of polish soldiers. Anyways it was georgian Stalin criminal revenge for 1920th polish POW camp dying of soviet POWs.
Just note you still didn't name in which german camp your granddad sat in 1945. Where it was located? It is not secret today right?

There is one bad thing about you. You hve always had bad luck with your rulers who did you more harm than good.==
If you mean soviet rullers you are absolutely right. But Russians fought against them in Civil war. The small acquitance.
If you mean czars and today leaders like Putin then I has contovercial opinion about them. Some good and some bad. It is difficult matter.

Paid? The payments do not even begin to scratch the surface for all the damages Nazi Germany inflicted in Europe.
Allianz, Deutche Bank, successors of IG Farben (AGFA, Hoechst, Bayer) just to mention a few got mega rich during the war at the expense of Innocent people. It was Herman Goring's Haupttreuhandstelle Ost organised bunch of legalised thievs that did the looting with German Ministry of Finance blessing with Swiss laundering the proceeds.
I am trying now to get what rightfuly belonged to my Polish grandfather. In 1940 Germans stole his pension fund forcing him to live out rest of his days in poverty. How would you like that yourself?
As to the question of claims against Poland. Think back and you will realize that it was Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill that drew up the borders after the second world war. Yes the displaced have right to claim for their lost properties but they should seek it from England, America and Russia not from Poland. I can tel you what their reply would be to any claims against them - shove it where the sun does not shine.
Soon you will have us believe that it was Poland that started the war.
It was the Germans that started the Second World War, it was the Germans that profited from the war (living it up right now). Germany have not even began to pay for all the looting, destroying and killing they started. In Warsaw alone there was more than $40 billion (in 1945 terms) that was destroyed by Germans in aftermath of Warsaw Uprising. Russians lost more than 60 million peole during the Second WW. Bet you did not know this!
How would you like if someone came to your house and smashed up your most treasured possession with the words Pity it was such a beautiful thing, have your family intimidated, your house burned down? And if you were foolish enough to resist you would have been shot in front of your family. Bet that would pi.. you right off.
So let bygones be bygones but let us treat each with respect and get on.
Yes the Kaczynski brothers are not the best Poles have (most of my friends are to say the least embarrassed by them) but they are leaders who want to close this chapter of history.
It was the recent court summonses that has opened up this again.
I wish 22 claimants all the best as this will set a precedence for Poles, Russians, Czech, etc to file claims against Germany - with me first in line. All the combined claims will bankrupt Germany and that would be a bad thing as it was the Versailles treaty after First World War that humiliated Germany which ultimately lead to the Second World War.
Are you willing to take the risk? I for one like peace and let us leave it this way for bit longer. My family and million more families have already lost at the hands of some fanatics.
Since 1945, Germany enjoyed freedom and democracy, whereas Poland and Eastern Europe had to endure Russian occupation till 1980's that did nothing apart from making these countries bankrupt.
Poland was one of the powerhouses of Europe up to 1939 which Germany and Russia successfully destroyed.
