Do the games help them get perfect report cards for their school work too? How many hours a day are they playing the games? There may be a direct relationship to their school work, but maybe not. (Is the "ya loon" epithet a personal attack?)
Dang! That's true, and we Freepers are all wasting time, but I have some available since I left the corporate rat race.
A Tv star. How cool.
Correcticus! TV entertainment is the worst available and I avoid it except the history and science channels where one can actually learn something. I simply have no time for anything like X box games, but I understand why people might get satisfaction from the games.
Interesting perspective, however, you are going to pay 500-700 for the ps3, vs 250 for the Wii....
Now with that 250-450 extra you are spending on the PS3, you could be going and buying the back catalog of GC games etc etc...
I'm not anti PS2... when it gets under $100 retail I'll probably pick one up... but the PS3 is a waste IMHO... Its just too pricy... and its launch games are poor. Keeping your PS2 is a fine option.
I am sure some people will move up with their brand loyalty, however we are talking total console sales when you talk dominant platform in the coming generation... and I think honestly Nintendo is going to wind up with the largest installed unit base.. because they aren't just targeting gamers.. they are consciously going after the casual gamer, or never played game before type not just the game junkie. They are playing in a bigger pool than sony or ms, and have it priced right with the right features to be successful at it.
Time will tell what will happen. As an investor my money is on Nintendo... they understand BUSINESS... they run profitable operations while their competitors have been burning cash and battling like crazy, they have sat back and been making money and sitting pretty. They get that gaming is about GAMES... not cells... you can have the greatest graphics in the world and still have crap games.
I think Sony hurt themselves big time with their price point.. yes most parents who only want one system are going to think, "Well I already have all these games, lets stay brand"... but when you walk in and see $700 price tag, those same parents, a lot of em are going to say "YEA RIGHT, I DON'T THINK SO"
Lets face it.. PS2 sold depending on when you bought it from 129 to 299 to say ok now pay me more than double to 6 times what you paid to stay with me... and expect folks across the board to do it. Especially when its competitor is sitting there for $250...
Sony priced itself out of remaining the main system.. .their execs have fully said we want the people WILLING to pay our price.. and that's fine... but that group isn't big enough to ensure them another 100 Million units moved.
XBOX 360 at a cheaper price point hasn't been able to move more than about 1/2 a Million units per month on average since its release.. and that was with NO competition out there, and at prices that were too high, but still cheaper than PS3.
Unless the Wii doesn't handle online well, or winds up having weak game options (not likely to happen by the looks of who's signed up so far).. they are going to have more installed units than Sony this gen.
But I'm not getting the PS3.
My children are honor roll. They are only allowed video games on weekends.
(Is the "ya loon" epithet a personal attack?)
Was this?
but maybe all of you who like them are satisfied by playing them and need some strange sense of achievement.
Actually, it was. He treated all of us in our area (positions 12 to 18) to Wendy's. LOL.
PC games are interesting, SOME of them...
However if I got a came that's avaialable on a game system or a PC... I'd much rather play it on the game system... don't have to worry about windows crashing.. faster booting, more refined controller, etc etc etc.
I'll definately take Lego Star wars on the Game Cube over the PC...
Also, on just a passing note, I find the GC controller very comfortable, the PS defacto controllers cause my hands to cramp etc...
I won't count out the PS3 based on the incredible success of the PS2 (which as I understand is still selling well). The PSP, on the other hand, is fairly dead.
The cnet review on all three shows a tie.
Next-gen gaming console shootout: Xbox 360 vs. PlayStation 3 vs. Nintendo Wii
John P. Falcone, Senior Editor
The Xbox 360 finally has some competition: The PlayStation 3 is now available (in extremely limited quantities), as is the Nintendo Wii. We've tested them all, and the good news is they all have a lot to offer: wireless controllers, online gameplay, and varying degrees of media functionality.
If you can choose only one, it'll be a tough choice indeed, but there are some basic rules of thumb. The Xbox 360 has already been on the market for a year--it has the most impressive list of games (with an emphasis on mature titles such as Gears of War and Saints Row), the well-developed Xbox Live online gaming service (which requires a yearly fee), and the new pay-per-view downloadable movies and TV shows--plus the HD-DVD add-on--make it a great companion for any HDTV owner.
The PS3, while pricier, is even more impressive: built-in Blu-ray drive, Wi-Fi networking, HDMI output, and free online head-to-head gaming make it a must-have for those consumers who need to be on the bleeding edge.
And last--but certainly not least--is the Nintendo Wii. It offers the most unique gameplay--courtesy of its motion-sensitive controller--and it's the most affordable of the lot. It's also the most family-friendly machine, though grown-ups will find plenty of diverting fare: the Wii will have its share of M-rated titles, not to mention a growing library of retro games from past consoles, including classic favorites from Nintendo and Sega. T
he bottom line: there's something for everyone on each of these consoles, so you're better off seeing which of the exclusive games most appeal to you, and picking up the corresponding machine. And remember: there's nothing wrong with getting two--or even all three.
Like you say I am a casual gamer. I like to spend a few hours a week playing puzzle games and city builders. If I am interested then the Wii is tapping into a fairly large new market if they come out with the right games.
""There's no way you deserve that game system...""
Sorry, I think the article is a complete BS story Ala Jason Blair. People just don't talk that way, unless it's what a white person with ethnic guilt projects of themselves.
CNET isn't going to pick one... would risk alienating a major advertisor... that "review" you quoted was a pass the buck story.
