What this debate will now degenerate into is whether killing six million people is worse than killing a few thousand. It's still the same crime.
Someone I knew shot an Iraqi in the head point blank. The Iraqi was no threat and wounded. The Iraqi was most likely mortally wounded and just waiting to die.
This soldier I knew only killed one person in this incident and it's even questionable if he in that split second was thinking about what he was doing. The guy he shot was a bad guy 100% for sure (Part of the Sadr militia). His record was impeccable and he never did anything like that before. He's a nice guy if you meet him in person. Today CPT Maynulet is a convicted felon.
