OMG, MTP Brooks and Friedman actually despise, I mean truly despise Rumsfeld.

What a couple of loons.

Brooks is nominally a conservative, but as I pointed out yesterday, I view him, because he works for the New York Times, the same way I viewed Buchannan and Novak for taking a paycheck from Turner as CNN's "chosen conservatives."  They don't get paid to represent conservative issues or points of view, at least not in a convincing way.  They mostly get paid to say "I'm a lifelong conservative, but..."

The thing that really set me off in the segment was when they were talking about the tribute Cheney gave to Rumsfeld on his retirement, particularly calling him the greatest Secretary of Defense in our history.  Friedman went balistic, going on and on about the fiasco in Iraq and then asking "does he think we're stupid?"

My immediate reaction was to ask that all of us send Thomas Friedman emails detailing exactly how stupid we think he is and why.  I think I'll also see if Snugs can come up with a graphic so that we can do the Bill Engvall "here's your sign" bit.

My initial run at it is that the problems we have in Iraq are not military problems, they are political and police problems.  The military situation is well in hand.  Rumsfeld oversaw the two most blindingly successful military campaigns in our nation's history.  We overthrew the Sadam government in three weeks!  All of the "experts," Friedman included, predicted tens of thousands of American dead in that invasion inside of days.  We're four years into the aftermath and we still have fewer casualities than we suffered in one week in Korea in 1950!  And less than we suffered in one day in New York and Washington in 2001.

Yes, I think he's stupid, so here's his sign:
