Lord God, sometimes we are at a loss on how to pray and what to pray. At this time of year, though, we realize how blessed we are with family, shelter, the necessities of life that it becomes easy for us to think of those who need our prayer support.

We pray for those who are in harm's way on behalf of our nation. They don't get nearly the thanks they should, and that makes the loneliness of a foreign outpost a little bit tougher to bear than it already is. We thank You for them, Lord. We thank them. We pray you grant them victory. We pray you make us prayer warriors on their behalf who realize our calling is to fight for every moment of breath so we can pray just a little bit more for these troops.

We pray for those who are needy, hungry, or suffering loss. You alone can heal a broken heart, Lord, but we can certainly provide food, clothing, and a listening ear. Jar us awake if that's what it takes. We pray that we truly open our eyes, truly look, and truly listen.

We pray for those who are sick or afflicted. There are no hands better than your hands, Lord. We certainly believe in doctors, medicine, courage, and determination, but we know that the beginning and ending of life is a decision you have reserved for yourself. Therefore, we place all those who are ill in your tender care. We pray they be strenghened in their struggle ALSO to put their lives in Your hands and Yours alone.

Finally, Lord, we pray for America. May you bless her with wise leaders, courageous warriors, industrious people, and visionary children. We pray that she loves freedom, but that she loves you more than liberty, for you are the source of true freedom.

Teach us to place every decision in Your eternally wise hands.

We pray in the name of Jesus; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
