[history]
YOU were named TIME magazine 'Person of the Year' Saturday for the explosive growth and influence of user-generated Internet content such as 'blogs', video-file sharing site YouTube and social network MySpace... You -- YES, YOU -- beat out candidates including Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, China's President Hu Jintao, North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi... YOU, YOU, YOU....

How incredibly, ridiculously, lame. Not as lame as this statement from the cover story:
There are lots of people in my line of work who believe that this phenomenon (the internet) is dangerous because it undermines the traditional authority of media institutions like TIME.

Looter Guy is so last year.
Green Helmet Guy would be the pick.

So the Time person of the year is you. Otherwise know as us.
Well, I suppose I should give Time some credit for recognizing the power of the people. Only thing is, theres no news here. This is nothing new. We have always been in charge. Its just that the people who thought they had the power now have no choice to but hear us and recognize that we are, and always have been, the boss.
This is stated in the hammer-and-chisel language of a Time tome:
But look at 2006 through a different lens and you'll see another story, one that isn't about conflict or great men. It's a story about community and collaboration on a scale never seen before. . . . It's about the many wresting power from the few and helping one another for nothing and how that will not only change the world, but also change the way the world changes. . . .
The new Web is a very different thing. It's a tool for bringing together the small contributions of millions of people and making them matter. Silicon Valley consultants call it Web 2.0, as if it were a new version of some old software. But it's really a revolution. . . .
And for seizing the reins of the global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own game, TIME's Person of the Year for 2006 is you. . . .
I don't disagree with a thing they say. I just want to turn down the volume a bit. And people think bloggers like me get overheated.
This year's cover reveals that the notion - or they would like to think, institution - of a single person of the year in the single biggest news magazine is such a social anachronism. It is a vestige of the mass era. It is the conceit of mass media that they could pick one person who mattered for the world and that we would listen.
So it's wise of Time to pick many people. That's the way the world really works. There are many worlds within our world and many leaders in them. So if Time were doing its job properly, it would highlight a million people of the year. But, of course, it can't. The form doesn't allow it. And the form is what led to massthink. But mass is over. And I see this as Time's admission of that. And so for that, I applaud them.
God knows what they'll put on the cover near year. (Knowing them, it may well be God.)

It's about time those liberal editors over at Time finally recognized my sheer genius. However, it seems we all have to share this award with the left wing liberal bloggers as well. You know, those folks that gave you Ned Lament in CT and tossed Joe Lieberman. In honor of the DU and assorted Democratic bloggers, Time should use this as their cover:

I think you're right. I used to read Time online. Then they banned that (no complaints, it's capitalism and it's their intellectual property, they're free to demand people pay) I signed up for a subscription at the counter of Dicks Sporting Goods while buying my son his T ball stuff. The clerk at the counter probably got a nice payday for convincing me to sign up. (Again, no complaints, she sold me on it fair and square and I bought it) But I had no idea how liberal Time has become over the years. You're right, they are probably doing back flips that Democrats have taken control of the house. This is their way of thanking the "people" who made it happen. Even it's for only 24 months. Then the limited government Conservatives like us will get back to being ourselves and the country will toss Pelosi, Waxman, Rangel and Reids' Socialist, Authoritarian, Big Government asses back into the minority. 2008 Man of the Year? Our new President and second time award winner:

And his running mate who can stand up and remind him of what it means to be a Conservative when he gets off course.

Dear TIME magazine,
As I did not authorize the use of my image, I'll expect a royalty check for $50,000,000 or my attorneys will file an immediate lawsuit.....

That's when Man of the Year meant something. It should go to the person who most affected the fortunes of the world, for good or ill. Hitler deserved in in 1938, or possibly Chamberlain. Either Stalin or Hitler deserved in in 1939. The 1942 selection of Stalin was also a good call, although it was pure kowtowing to our new ally.
Time should have picked Bin Laden in 2001 for Person of the Year, but they chickened out and selected Guiliani. They no longer have the courage to make the correct, controversial picks.
To: Cyclopean Squid
Probably should have gone w/ the Amadijhad (or how ever you spell his name) or Kim Jong Il
But hey, you get a mirror w/ this issue
