I don't think the President is "side-stepping" has past comment. Each his comments are in different venues and not in conflict.

that was his fully quote huh?
To: VictoryGal
What else is he going to say? "No comment"? They'd have crucified him if he said that. Maybe "Up yours" would have been better, or "Get lost."

What do people want him to say?
Would "The lesbian hedonistic whore should burn in hell" be sufficient?
Sheesh.

Sidestep doesn't mean take a side that conflicts. Technically, what he said doesn't conflict with previous statements, especially if you like to split hairs. Sidestep means that he's carefully avoiding the more definitive things he's said about the issue. And he is.

Ah, the slippery slope grows ever broader.
Alia was the name of the first child of Paul (Muad Dib) Artriedes and the Fremen girl, Chani.

It's exactly this awkward situation that should have made Dick Cheney say "no thanks" when G. W. Bush offered him the VP-slot six years ago.
The media is going to make a circus out of this, and it's going to hurt the GOP going into 2008...

And yet some people claim Bush is endorsing the "homosexual agenda" by being nice.

Exactly. What he said is going to p!ss a lot of people off.
Got to hand it to the Dems. They're on the wrong side of an issue that 65-80% of the electorate agrees on (that is, homos are not the equivalent of a married couple). Yet, they've found a way to hang the homo albatross around the Stupid Party's neck.

Um. President Bush is not a preacher, priest, minister, or Gaia convert. He knows that a child is best raised in a home with great diversity and security -- that of a married man and woman.
A woman whom he is acquainted with or knows is a lesbian who is now a mother. A child has been born. The President thinks she will be a good mother and he wishes the very best for mother and child.
He's not sidestepping his belief in what might be the best model for raising children. What's done is done. He has been most gracious, and correct in wishing mother and child well. And I join him in that.
