Um, I hate to be a nit-picker, but Kwanzaa is not celebrated in Africa. It was created by Ron Karenga, who actually was my professor at Cal State Long Beach! He wasn't as racist as I thought he would be either!

Ron Karenga aka Ron Everett,is a racist.

Yes, I will admit he was racist. I had to take a "multiculturalism" class in college, and he was one of the professors in it. Most of the time he would simply talk about how bad white people were, but nothing new. He was one fat dude though.

Keeping the government out of promoting religious displays is no more stealing Christmas than decreases in the rate of program funding increases are a cut in funding.

Show me an instance where a government body said "You can put that nativity there, but we ain't gonna have any stinking mennorhas or let the atheists put up a display" and I'll be with you. But the idea that government must pretend Christ wasn't born in order to avoid violating the First Amendment is just silly.

I've read your paragraph of non sequitrs three times and the point remains as elusive as boiled okra. If you're replying to something I have said, please comment on that or just pass by. I'm not into following your straw rabbit down the hole.

Try this:

The presence of a religious display on government property means exactly diddly unless other religions are being excluded. You're the one employing the straw man by talking about government promotion of religious displays.

"The presence of a religious display on government property means exactly diddly unless other religions are being excluded."

You're an intelligent man, Silverback, but if you can't see that government sponsored religious displays don't violate the establishment clause, I can't help you.

You're an intelligent man, Silverback,

Thanks, back at you. As I'm sure you've heard many times, the establishment clause is designed to prevent the government from forming a state church.

Take the folks in Madison, Wisconsin, whos surprisingly have gotten this right. They have displays from all comers in the Capitol, including a display from the Freedom From Religion Foundation declaring an atheist creed. How are they establishing a state relgion when the Christians have a display declaring their belief that the Messiah has come, the Jews have a display that celebrates Hanukkah (and implies that the baby the Christians laud was no Messiah) and the atheists are one the other side of the room with a sign that says there is no God, much less a Messiah? What is the government establishing there?
