Mexico City - Mexican President Felipe Calderon on Thursday said he planned to strengthen security at his country's southern border with Guatemala, which is used by thousands of immigrants seeking to reach the United States each year.
Calderon said he planned to increase the police presence at the border with the hope that it could become the "door to development rather than the door to crime," in a speech at the border town of Tuxta Chico.

Calderon doesn't give a whit about the United States.
Calderon is very concerned about the Guatemalans who don't reach the United States and become "the door to crime" in Mexico.
Hey it's just Guatamalans doing jobs that Mexicans won't do.
That country is certainly full of hypocrisy.
Calderon sounds like a xenophobic racist...
This is part of the North American Union agreement Bush made with Mexico and Canada on 23 Mar 05. The US is paying for it, and it is only one small part of this under reported plan, well underway, to merge our three countries.
"Calderon is very concerned about the Guatemalans who don't reach the United States and become "the door to crime" in Mexico."
Maybe. Might also be that this is an excuse to move troops into southern Mexico, where there's a near revolt by lefties in the state of Chiapas.
Hey this is a great idea and i think we ought to model it as well, on our southern border.
Calderon just wants to make sure that the illegals who get into the United States send money back to Mexico, not Guatemala.
Every Guatemalan who gets through is just stealing an American job from a deserving Mexican. < /almost sarcasm>

That will help slow down Hondurans and MS-13 too!
Maybe Mexico could build an HOV lane for express routing through Mexico to the US?
It is a crock. Mexico has never wanted illegals coming in from south of their border, yet they won't seal up their northern border.
