"Above all, we need to pray for the children and spouses of those persons who were arrested and face deportation at this sacred time of year.
No doubt your prayers were 'heard'. Hopefully you're praying for the lives of those ruined by identity theft...did you mention it?
Since this is nothing but another show and tell, catch and release, they'll be home in a day or two.
As a Catholic, I am most pleased that these illegals were rounded up. Yes, we do need to question the timing, manner and focus.
What not more often? Why did the Feds warn the company?
If they were here legally they would not be "disrupted" and...oh my..."frightened", now would they.
What crap.
The Catholic church should stay out of this...
The criminals may be Catholic, but they have broken the law -- including some of the 10 Commandments..
Semper Fi
Is that an honest question, or just rhetorical slime? Have you stopped beating your wife yet?
Looks like maybe it's the 'secular authorities' that need to get their act together.
The United States has an illegal immigration problem, not the Catholic church, which seems to condone breaking the law. And illegal aliens who steal identities are not average workers ether.
*snicker*
'raids have disrupted hundreds of families in the immigrant community and frightened many thousands more.'
............
Illegals disrupt ALL legitimate citizens and their families, and frighten many thousands more.
What I want to know is, why no charges against the employer?
First they said they had no idea who might be illegal. Then they said 40% of their workforce was illegal. (Amazing estimate from a company that "didn't know.") Then they tried to persuade the authorities not to do the raid.
I agree that if you break the law, you shouldn't whine about paying the penalty. But the Big Guys are the employers and the coyotes. Not going after them seems to me like political cowardice.
And BTW, I don't think Archbishop Chaput had a pedophile problem on his watch. I just read that he was settling up on some incidents that occurred between 27 and 50 years ago and involved two priests, one of whom died more than 10 years ago, and one who is defrocked.
What other institution get sued for what an employee did 50 years ago? Public schools? The Fire Dept.? Anybody?
There are some folks who puke up the 'pedophile' meme every time the Church is mentioned. It tells me more about them than it does about the Church ...
The time has come for the illegals to render unto Caesar.
Mmm ... Even I might find something else for ICE to do two weeks before Christmas. The new year is soon enough.
The time has long since come for those who hire the illegals ... and those who rent to them ... and those who sell them stolen or falsified documentation ... to 'render unto Caesar'.
If only Caesar had any interest in prosecuting them ...
I used to take up for Catholic priests but their longstanding support of illegals make me say "Shut up turd archbishop."
That gives you a two-week window in October. You have 10 and 1/2 months to prepare.
Denver Archdiocese Reacts To ICE Raid
Statement by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput
POSTED: 5:03 pm MST December 13, 2006
DENVER -- "The mass arrest of unauthorized workers in Colorado and across the country this week once again puts a human face on the flaws in our immigration system; a system that needs immediate and very serious reform.
As Ive said many times in the past, the Church supports the law. She supports our nations right to regulate immigration and secure our borders for the common good of all citizens. We also deeply respect the men and women who have the task of enforcing the law in difficult circumstances.
But as Catholics, we also need to vigorously question the timing, manner and focus of these latest arrests. Staged on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe and barely two weeks before Christmas, these raids have disrupted hundreds of families in the immigrant community and frightened many thousands more. And while public officials have explained the reason for these raids as criminal identity theft, most of the real criminals the people who steal and sell the false identities so that undocumented immigrants can find work were not among those arrested.
Dramatic, get-tough arrests of more and more average workers will not solve our immigration crisis. In fact, such actions often engender more confusion and bitterness, and they dont strike at the root of the real issue: an immigration system that seems disconnected from the human and business realities of the American economy.
As we enter the last few days before Christmas, we urgently pray that God will grant our law enforcement authorities prudence, justice and restraint in carrying out their duties, and that members of Congress will act rapidly and with courage in fixing an immigration system that has clearly failed. Above all, we need to pray for the children and spouses of those persons who were arrested and face deportation at this sacred time of year.

I think it's time for the Archdiocese to start paying their "fair share" of taxes to help the U.S. taxpayers support these illegal aliens. If they don't want to do that, they need to just keep their mouths shut. How's that for "timing?"
