Senator's Illness Has Dems On Edge
-----
Wouldn't you be on edge if you see what the GOP goons are willing to do for power. Bush H A S to be stopped before all the democrats are murdered. /sarc off
But he does not get to vote from a hospital bed. Lacking his vote, the senate is 1 vote closer to a tie. All one needs is one dem and, of course, no 'mavericks'.
Could be important on judges.
"Should Senator Johnson not be able to resume his position, my prediction is that the Republican Governor of SD will NOT appoint a republican replacement.
That's a separate issue."
That would be the political death knell for the governor
Prayers for the guy and his family. I hope he pulls through.
I am no fan of Democrats, however, I am also no fan of political offices being made by those with particular biases/prejudices.
I do not think Governor's should appoint replacements for House or Senate seats. I think they should be vacant until the next available state election day whether February, May, November or whatever.
This cuts both ways and it will help us as much as hurt us.
It will also prevent some poor family from pretending their family member is mentally/physically capable when he is not. It's an abhorrent thought to me that an incapacitated figure could be propped up with a respirator while staffers act "in his name" and votes get recorded electronically.

Amen. "God speaks, the earth melts"- from Psalms something.
What really irks me is that this 51-49 majority they tout is not true either! IT is in reality a 49-49 D/R with 2 independents who choose to caucus with the democrats. Now, if this were 2 independents who chose to caucus with the republicans would they announce it as a 51-49 republicans or would they most likely state it as a tied senate with 2 independents who's votes would be subjective!
Anyone agree?
Some even say I am half baked.
Wouldn't surprise me for the GOP to cave in a spirit of bipartisanship and replace him with a Dem.
The Senate gets to decide who is fit to continue to serve in the Senate. As I recall it takes a 3/4 margin to remove a senator from serving.
A Governor only gets to replace a DEAD or RESIGNED Senator. A senator can be a vegetable and unless the senate votes to remove him, he can stay in office and vote.
That's abhorrent.
I think it was virtually the case with the late Strom Thurmond.
Congressman Billybob
Well the stock market took off big time tdy, so it may well be serious for the poor fellow.
Shepard Smith just had a doctor on his show who said that the brain surgeons use CRAZY GLUE to repair the artery. Yep, crazy glue.
