First off - prayers for Sen. Johnson and his family for a quick and complete recovery.
If he is not able to continue his duties, here is the likely scenario:
1. Special Election will be held within 90 days (after Rep appointed as replacement over Democrats cries of "foul").
2. Tom Daschle announces his candidacy
3. $10 million flow into his campaign fund
4. Daschle trails throughout election night - Precincts in Western Indian Reservation not yet reporting
5. Western Indian Reservations cast 3x as many votes as registered voters for Daschle
6. Daschle wins
7. Democrats maintain control of Senate
And I am an optomist.

If he should be unable to continue to serve, it could halt the scheduled Democratic takeover of the Senate. Democrats won a 51-49 majority in the November election. South Dakota's governor, who would appoint any temporary replacement, is a Republican. A tad early for such speculation, which is a little bit sick. Granted, I'd expect the MSM to be blaring the announcements like the Angel Gabriel welcoming Christmas were it the other way around, but Republicans don't cheer that way.
Hey, I'll bet the MSM is already writing editorials and Op-Eds telling the SD gov to appoint a Democrat because that's what they people voted in and it would be "the right thing to do". (Actually, it would be the "left" thing to do.)
Prayers for a speedy recovery.

People do not usually die of strokes that involve a little slurring and lighheadedness. It is the stroke that brings unconsciousness and large brain injury that is fatal.

As much as I detest these rodents, I'd prefer to see them resign or get defeated at the ballot box than have a nasty health scare. Prayers for Sen. Johnson's health.

If it was serious, wouldn't they know it was a stroke by now?

Just like the soon-to-be majority leader Harry Reid, who also suffered a stroke. And the LameStream Media will, for the most part, ignore it.
But every time Dick Cheney farts, it is a news event.

All's fair in love, war, and politics. This is Heinz and Coverdale in reverse; say all the nice things you want about Zell Miller, but he still caucused with the Dems and could not be persuaded to come over to the right side after Jeffords defected. I say best wishes to you Senator Johnson (D-SD) as you live the rest of your life in a convalescent home. Rounds appoints an R for two years, and Cheney breaks all ties. Sounds harsh, that's life - or the end of it.

Thoughts and prayers sent his way.

Here's to a quick recovery.
If he isn't able to serve, I hope he doesn't cling to power at the possible expense of his health.

No way the RATs will let Tim Johnson fail to serve in the Senate. Even if they have to prop him up like Capt. Christopher Pike of the old Enterprise, with nothing but flashing lights to indicate yes or no, they will do so. The RATs will do anything to seize and hold power.

Docs know a lot more about how to treat strokes now than they did even a decade ago.
Prayers for Sen. Johnson and his family.

Governor Mike Rounds is a Republican. He has speculated about running for the seat himself in '08. He will probably procede very cautiously.
Prayers for a speedy recovery for the Senator and his family.
