A truck-driving student is in custody in Boston after raising suspicions when he wasn’t interested in learning how to back up his rig.

WLVI-TV (Ch. 56) reported last night that the would-be trucker is a 28-year-old Muslim from India and had overstayed his visa. An investigation is under way to see whether there is any connection between his unusual behavior and a terrorism plot. Federal authorities were alerted by instructors at the Nationwide Tractor Trailer Driving School in Smithfield, R.I., WLVI reported.

Doesn't this sound familiar to those students wanting to learn how to fly with no interest in landing the plane? The student was a resident of New York and had driver's licenses from New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island. Any of these indicators alone would be one thing, but a combination of all of them qualifies for common sense suspicion. It won't surprise me to see CAIR or the ACLU pull out the race card on this.

When I ran a local fleet and receiving department, fruit haulers from Cali would pull into the lot, pop into my office and say, "Where's your spotter?"
So, this is not suspicious. He overstayed his visa. Have a nice trip home.

Not sure I totally agree with you here. Having driven some large vehicles in my time, I would always use a "spotter" as a safety percaution while backing the truck up.

To me, asking for a spotter is a bit different than not want to know how to back a rig up at all.

Not sure there is a "plot" involved here, but better safe than sorry...and with the expired visa, send him home.

I needed to know how to back up for a simple operators license. I'm pretty sure backing up is required to get a CDL.

I would suppose that they have many plans involving ways to inflict massive damage.

One such "truck driving school" owner/operator from Kansas City has a "truck driving school" was arrested this past summer for arranging to have his "students" only take their tests for licensing on a certain day when they would be assured to have a specific person working who made sure that everyone passed. The DMV employee that was "assisting" on passing those "students" was also arrested. (Probably let go as he is a Civil Servant, guaranteed to keep his job and pay grade above all else.)

An interesting sidebar - all of those students were Muslims, many from African countries presumably brought here on "humanitarian" outreach programs.

I wonder how carefully they are inspecting trucks passing over major bridges and through major tunnels (e.g. Verrazzano Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, etc.). I know they were doing it quite a bit for a while, but as I have not passed through any of the major NY area bridges and tunnels lately, I don't know if they're still performing random inspections of large vehicles there.

Of course, it would still be possible for the Islamo-nutjobs to do the mother of all Oklahoma City bombings someplace else where security might not be tight, but the potential to kill lots of innocent people is high (and the Islamo-fascists just love places like that).
