A truck-driving student is in custody in Boston after raising suspicions when he wasnt interested in learning how to back up his rig.
WLVI-TV (Ch. 56) reported last night that the would-be trucker is a 28-year-old Muslim from India and had overstayed his visa. An investigation is under way to see whether there is any connection between his unusual behavior and a terrorism plot. Federal authorities were alerted by instructors at the Nationwide Tractor Trailer Driving School in Smithfield, R.I., WLVI reported.
The student was described as a resident of New York, with drivers licenses from New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island.
Every indicator was there, R.I. State Police Major Steve ODonnell told WLVI. Any one of these things alone is fine, but four or five together .
While a loaded semi-truck would make a fine weapon its hard for this ex-farm boy to understand that youd need a lesson on how to drive it forward.
I wonder what will become of this story?
I envy you and anyone else who can back up one of those rigs. I have never been able to back my 8ft trailer with any success let alone a big rig.
Love that movie. The backing scene was one of my favorite.
Thank you for the post. I copied it to a file and will try what you posted. I've never been very successful at it but bet you know what you are talking about.
Married to his daughter now for 36 years. Sadly he is gone now but I think he finally liked me as well as I liked him.
You got it.
Thanks for your kind words. So I've found. Takes constant correcting and constant neck crick hazard! LOL.
May all your drives be safe ones.
And all your burdens unloaded rapidly and smoothly this CHRISTmas and in the coming year.
Sounds wonderful and congrats all around.
Obviously he doesn't plan on backing into his target.

I suppose the only thing I ever was reluctant to do with the F-111 was runups which required a "runup certification." Two Pratt & Whitney TF30s running in afterburner was more than this farm boy cared to sit on. Flightlines can be a threatening place there is no doubt. Once sitting at the runway waiting to cross to the trimpad, we had a T-33 slide right in front of our Metro van when his front wheel collapsed on landing. About all you have time to do is watch and wait.
Agreed on the not giving terrorists license to kill us.
If he's here on a visa revoke the visa and give him the boot. If his visa is expired, throw him in prison for being here illegally.
Didn't Want To Learn Backing Up
-----
If the FBI bosses didn't worry about a pilot trainee who didn't want to learn to land they'll probably brush this one off in the same way. He hasn't broken any laws so not my job. Call me when something happens and we'll assign the appropriate police agency to investigate and report.
The democrats are in power now and these police matters will be given high investigative priority currently allowed under the law. We realise that 10 major U.S. cities have been threatened and that there are 20 suitcase nukes missing but no laws have yet been broken so nothing can be done and we legally can not detain or question this person. We don't know if he's here legally or not because it's unlawful to ask as that might be construed as profiling.
Thanks Jerry but much of the practical skills of my youth have now been sacrificed to too many years of being a desk jockey. However, I too will always admire the guys and gals who choose to drive the really big rigs for a living.
God bless you, and may God bless me with the patience to love my wife for 36 years also.
Yowzah! Sounds like the equipment you used was "challenging" to say the least. My tractor was a fairly old cab over but that sucker could really pull the hills. She was in really good shape too. My hat's off to you!
You forgot to tell them to put it in reverse and let the clutch out.
This is nothing compared to the truck driving school in our town. It was closed down in February after a raid by the FBI. Now the director and his assistant are under federal indictment for mail fraud. There were about 500 men with muslim sounding names that were sent down here from Kansas City (about 200 miles away) to take the drivers test. They were sent by the MBS Truck Driving School (Muslim Brothers and Sisters). Apparently, some of the documents stating that they passed the test were falsified. The director was the Democratic candidate for state representative in November. I am not making this up!!!!!
Guess nobody told you it was unlimited speed from one end of runway to the other. Secondary job, runway barrier maintenance.
Yes, God has indeed blessed me with a strong conservative woman who is very easy to cherish and love. I sincerely wish the same blessings on you and yours during this season of celebration.
As Dirty Harry says, "Well, I'm all broke up about his rights."
This is nothing compared to the commercial truck driving school in our town. It was recently shut down after an FBI raid last February. Turns out about 500 men with middle eastern names (muslim) were sent here from the MBS Truck Driving School (Muslim Brothers and Sisters) in Kansas City to take their driving tests. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Interesting. In the early 80's, I was spending a lot of time flying with an instructor when I could who owned the flight school. A group of guys, allegedly from Sri Lanka, arrived get their pilot's licenses at the same time. There were probably 20 of them. I always wondered why their country would send them all here to learn to fly, it seemed strange. They were an odd bunch, and they could have been absolutely legit, but I always wondered...
After working at the post office for twelve years and watching many a truck driver try to back his semi up into a very limited space which is our delivery parking lot, I've got great respect for the skills of these guys and gals. I'd hate to have to do it. Some of the not so skilled have knocked down a few brick walls by the entrance. I've also been subjected to few rants by truckers who were quite annoyed with our tiny lot. Couldn't blame them.
