Absolutely!!! That act has ALWAYS rated the MOH as far as I know. It is the quintessential MOH act. What a man.

What are the steps need to award him the Medal of Honor? Is it possible that he will be so honored in the future?

Possibly but I'm not sure of the exact steps.

Doubtful. They'd have to revoke the silver star and I've never heard of them doing that.
To: SandRat
From my understanding, the reason they are going with a SS now is that it can be awarded immediately by the military. The COM requires quite a bit of bureaucratic BS with the congress and is usually awarded (much)later. I don't think his being awarded the SS now impedes the COM process.

But of course, as we've seen, others disagree with me. I hope they're right. I think the kid deserves the MOH. After all, Kerry has a silver star, doesn't he? I don't want to see this hero in the same category as that putz.

What part of:
"(The Medal of Honor) is awarded in the name of Congress to a person who, while a member of the Army, distinguished himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States;"
don't they understand?

Usually these are interim awards, while the MoH gets processed. However, they need a specific recommendation for the MoH from somebody in the chain of command first. But normally, the interim award is at the Cross level (Army Distinguished Service Cross, Navt Cross, etc.).

Kerry has a silver star, doesn't he?
Kerry's silver star was earned in 2nd grade for reading, and was stuck to his forehead by his teacher.

I see, thanks. I hope someone recommends him.

My sentiments exactly. I read the article and thought 'and John Kerry received the Silver Star for WHAT???'

Please don't mention kerry and this fine young man in the same sentence. There REALLY is no comparison.

I think with this being so recent (4 December) that the wheels are still turning on this. I can't swear to it, but believe this will be upgraded to a MOH once finalized and the citation runs through the process to congress.
They won't 'revoke' his SS (that sounds like they took it away) they'll 'upgrade' it.
If ever someone deserved the MOH, this selfless young man's actions certainly do. Bless his family, Lord and give them strength.
