President Bush had breakfast with Bob Gates, who will be sworn in Monday as the new Secretary of Defense.

He met with Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi in the Oval. Also in the meeting were Dick Cheney, Condi Rice, Stephen Hadley, and White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten. He participated in a video teleconference, that included Donald Rumsfeld, with combatant commanders and the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq.

At the State Department, Secretary of State Rice met with Iraq Vice President Tariq Ahmed Baker Al-Hashimi, and also met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England, Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer and Australian Secretary of Defense Brendan Nelson and held a news conference with Downer. Rice witnessed the signing of the Joint Strike Fighter Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. and Australia.

Thanks for the BigSky update. Wow, Denmark. That's a long flight.

It wasn't too bad really. Especially the Minneapolis to Amsterdam leg of the trip. We had a 7.5 hour flight and we could pass the time with movies, music or games with a little controller in our arm rests and a little monitor right in front of us. Watched the new Pirates Of The Caribbean and then switched over to a map where we could follow the airplane we were in and had some music to entertain me while I watched our plane fly it's assigned route. Pretty neat stuff! :)

I quickly got over my jet lag. It was difficult to realize it was 9:00a.m. here when we arrived. The old brainbox was still thinking it was 1:00a.m. (back home). A day of rest and relaxation the first day here helped!

Sorry to be so tardy in replying snugs, my time on FR has been very limited the last few days [thank goodness, I needed a rest from the battlefield on the main board]

I'm up to my eyes in preparing English goodies for a squadron party at the beginning of the week. There's cookies galore and I just finished wrapping the last coconut ice bar in plastic wrap. [500 in all, would have been a few more but we had to sample a few to make sure they were just right :)] Tomorrow will be sausage roll day [probably more sampling....yummy!]

Your right about my screen name, I was born and raised in Oxford but my family in the U.K. now live on the I.O.W. After my husband was forced to take a medical retirement from the AF, we settled in the California High Desert away from the hustle bustle of the big city. Thankyou for the welcome btw to Sanity Island.
