BALTIMORE -- A Kansas church has been ordered to pay $3,150 for costs and fees associated with a summons and complaint filed by the father of a Marine whose funeral was picketed by the extremist group.
Albert Snyder, of York, Pa., is suing the Rev. Fred Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church after church members demonstrated at the funeral of Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, of Westminster, and posted pictures of the protest on their Web site.
Lance Snyder was killed in Iraq in March. Members of the Topeka church claim U.S. soldiers are killed as God's punishment for America's tolerance of homosexuality.
His father's federal lawsuit, filed June 5, alleges church members violated the family's right to privacy and defamed the Marine and his family at the funeral and on the church's Web site.
Phelps and the church refused to grant a waiver in the serving of summonses in connection with the federal lawsuit, making the church liable for those costs.
Court documents say the church has 30 days to make the payment to Snyder.
One for our side!
One of these days, some crazy-a$$ mother****er is going to decide to use Mr. Phelp's head as a boresighting target before going out deer-hunting.
They left out that it is a pro-Gore church.
How does it feel to be on the losing side of a lawsuit for a change, Fred?
The trouble is that Phelps and clan are trained as lawyers and
hide their assets and their church assets. It will be very hard to get anything from them.
Discussed this morning from the Baltimore Sun here:

Interesting that this is not a suit settlement, but an order to pay court costs. Apparently, the WBC wackos irritated the judge...
Actually Fred Phelps and his crowd have just the opposite purpose from what people think. The real intent of this group is to advance the homosexual agenda and to denigrate Christianity which is also part of the homosexual agenda.
I tend to agree.
It's interesting to note that Phred was a "civil rights" attorney before starting all this sh!t.
they should add on another 3-5 million dollars in punitive damages and take away the "church" property.
I'm waiting for the day he has to shell-out $10,000 for new dental work because someone finally had the courage to smash this guy in the teeth.
of all of the Churches which have been burnt in the US in the last fifty years, its a continuing curiosity that theirs has not made the list. I've never advocated burning a church of any kind but if I did this would be at the top of the list.
Do they even have a real building or are they just a church on paper?
I don't know what their real intent is, but Phelps has done his dead level best to denigrate Christianity.
His whole schtick of "our soldiers are killed because God hates gays" has grown more than a bit wearysome. Any resemblance drawn between Phelps and Christianity would have to be imaginary.
To be honest, as a Christian, I resent this guy's little den of hatred being called a "church."
its a sh$thole, but its a physical building. it wouldn't take a Ranger or Delta operator to figure out how to make it go away. It just wouldn't be anybody here in FR since that kind of retribution is typical of the Left, not us.
Unfortunately, the media will pretend not to differentiate between you, me or those hatemongers when they talk about 'Christians' but the media is slowing dying and there is no heaven for them when they are gone.
A Win for Our Side on the Home-Front!
Or some mother crazy with grief...
