Clinton spied on all high profile people, and got information on their private lives for fun and/or blackmail. Remember when he announced, with great sorrow, that Bob Hope died, only to find out that he had not? That exposed what he was doing. He was looking to be "President Daddy", to be the first one to console us when someone died, to tell us bad or good news, and to hold to his vest who was banging who. One by one, they went soft on Clinton during the 90s--GHWB, Orrin Hatch, Linseed Graham, Bob Dole, Newt, Trent Lott, and....titans of industry, too. Think he couldn't ask GM or Morgan Stanley for favors when he wanted them? And don't forget the IRS audits.

With Princess Di, he was probably looking to find out who she was doing, for gossip's sake, and perhaps for future reference in case he ever wanted to dump the witch and start an Anglo-US leftist alliance.

I don't remember Clinton announcing Bob Hope had died. I remember it was announced in Congress, but not by Clinton.
