I don't remember Clinton announcing Bob Hope had died. I remember it was announced in Congress, but not by Clinton.

It was either Clinton himself, or the White House issuing a statement, but Bob Hope was not dead, just "mostly dead".

Kidding, he was ill, but recovered and lived for some period of time thereafter. They probably intercepted something that made them think he died. Hope's people and doctors all stated that none of them had called the White House or released any info, and so no one ever explained how the White House made this error.
