Israeli military intel warns of 2-front war in 2007

TEL AVIV — Israel's military is bracing for a possible two-front war in the summer of 2007.

Officials said the General Staff has received intelligence assessments that Israel could be attacked from both Lebanon and Syria in the north as well as the Palestinian Authority in the south during the summer of 2007. They said the military concluded that Hizbullah and the PA would coordinate missile strikes against Israel. "The last war [against Hizbullah in July 2006] caught both Hizbullah and the Palestinians by surprise," an official said. "Now both sides are in full coordination and when war erupts the missiles will fly from both fronts."

On Sunday, the head of the research division of Military Intelligence, Brig. Gen. Yossi Baidatz, said Syria was preparing for war with Israel. Baidatz said Syrian President Bashar Assad ordered accelerated production of medium-range Scud C and D missiles, which could strike virtually anywhere in the Jewish state.

Baidatz also told the Cabinet that Assad ordered the Syrian Army to deploy anti-tank missile units along the Golan Heights near the border with Israel. At the same time, Assad ordered the withdrawal of Syrian forces from other fronts.

"He is preparing the Syrian Army for the possibility of a military conflict with Israel," Baidatz said. "On the other hand, he is not ruling out the possibility of reaching a political settlement with Israel."

Officials said Iran has helped Hizbullah and Syria prepare for another war against Israel. They said Iran has replenished Hizbullah's rocket and missile arsenal as well as increased financing to Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the PA areas. "The deeper the connection among Hizbullah, Syria, Iran and Hamas, the more we need to worry," Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Moshe Kaplinsky said on Dec. 8.

Kaplinsky said Iran was also preparing to achieve nuclear weapons capability in early 2007. He said Teheran would master the nuclear cycle, or produce enriched uranium without significant foreign help.

A senior military source said Northern Command has led efforts to prepare for a war against Hizbullah and Syria by mid-2007. The source said reserve units have conducted live-fire exercises since October 2006, with plans for a division-level exercise in early 2007.

"There is no information that somebody is going to attack us in the summer," Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh said on Monday. "But we are building our force in accordance with capabilities and not intentions. Things could change overnight."

Israel should put Damascus and Tehran on notice that in the event of any attacks on Israel, the response will be directed there

We should have put both places on notice a long time ago. Send them a styrafoam cup, fill it with acetone, then say:

"This cup is Tehran/Damascus, and the acetone is Islam. Poor the acetone in the cup, and watch the show. The end result is what you are looking at."

A pile of yuk!

You know when it gets bad. The Americans and the Isrealis pull out in a rapid retreat - 24 hour notice.

Boom - "When we hear the ambassador's phone screeching we will know the weapon has detonated."

Taken from "Failsafe."

The Arabs are getting ready for a replay of 1948. And if the execrable James S. Baker gets his way, the Israelis will be going it alone. They think they smell blood in the water - and they may be right.

I which case the Arabs had better get ready for their Gotterdammerung. They have been warned.

While I was extremely disappointed in the "cease-fire" in this last go-around I fervently hope that Israel decided to delay and really prep herself for the unquestionable replay.

If, IF this goes down, then I would expect there would also be some coordination with Al-Qaeda in Iraq, Iran and Afganistan and possibly even N. Korea as well as general terrorist activities around the world, to keep the U.S. and NATO too busy to help out Israel. This scenario could get very ugly, very fast. If Israel feels sufficiently threatened they could easily go nuclear and then all bets are off. Syria and Hezbolla/Hamas might feel that they could handle Israel if the Allies are out of the picture.

Keep in mind that Ahmadinejad has been making some very interesting trips lately, Venezuela, DPRK, etc.

I hope our guys are paying attention.

I favor no bombs....assassination squads are more terrifying. Let the terrorists feel the blade and learn to fear it. This they will understnad. No leader should be safe, religious or political or military or Islamist.

The muslim's Gotterdammerung is the West's liberation from Islam. Just hope that this time Israel will not leave one stone unturned.

I see with Israel having 2 options

New Exodus to thye USA and Australia

SAMSON option

She is completely dependent on the USA and can't dictate her own policies

Arabs learned how to use the Oil Weapon back in 73
The handwriting was on the wall

Israel no longer has the tremendous influence in the American congress she once had

I left out all those that imho would not be active aggressors. I included DPRK because of their nukes as a supplier. Kim might also kick off an invasion of the South as part of this - good opportunity for him.

I don't see Mexico or Venesula launching any significant military action against the US. They might very well participate with Iran, et al in other, more subtle ways (oil, etc.), however. Ditto a number of other countries around the world.

From our perspective we might think of it as a global multi-tasking effort. Better stock up on Twinkies and pizza.

Ya got it, Gunny: Subtle. Most devastating punch is the one you never saw.

I do know that the supplies of Israeli-made ammo and component reloading parts have dried up...Israel simply isn't exporting them anymore.

Regarding coordination, read the following (but have a bottle of Maalox at your side): http://www.therant.us/staff/kraft/10242006.htm
