ROME, N.Y. - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday she won't make a decision about running for president until after the first of the year.

Yes No

During a visit to an aircraft maintenance facility at the former Griffiss Air Base, Clinton confirmed she is talking to people in New York and across the country about a possible run for president in 2008. It was the first time Clinton publicly confirmed what her aides and fellow Democrats have been saying about a possible presidential run.

"I'm talking to people who have opinions about what our country needs to do going forward and whether or not I make any decisions, I can't really confront until after the first of the year," Clinton said.

The former first lady said she had not yet decided whether to form a presidential exploratory committee, but that technical requirements of federal election law might require her to do so if she continues to consider a presidential run.

"I'm certainly interested in what happens to our country," she said when asked if she was interested in being president. "I'm looking at where our country is, where I would like to see it go, listening to people who think I might make a contribution to that."

Asked if she would make a good president, Clinton said, "obviously if I make a decision to pursue it, that would be one of the conclusions I reach."

Clinton was in Rome for the announcement that the airline JetBlue will begin sending 20 percent of its planes to a maintenance facility located on the former air base.

NEW YORK (AP) — Israel and the world are threatened by a "possibly deranged and surely dangerous regime" in Iran, White House hopeful Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) told a Jewish audience.

As the world's "chief state sponsor of international terrorism," Iran defines itself by its hostility to the Jewish state and its chief ally, the United States, the Arizona Republican said in a speech for a Hanukkah dinner at Yeshiva University on Sunday.

He noted that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called the Holocaust a "myth," urged that Israel be "wiped off the map" and defied international demands and incentives to end a drive to gain nuclear weapons capability.

"It is simply tragic that millennia of proud Persian history have culminated in a government that today cannot be counted among the world's most civilized nations," McCain said.

The former Vietnam prisoner of war, who tried and failed to gain the GOP presidential nomination in 1998, is considered the probable front-runner for his party's nomination in two years.

McCain made his speech during visit to the home turf of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and ex-Mayor Rudy Giuliani, potential rivals in the 2008 presidential race

Ahmadinejad has denied that Iran seeks to build weapons, saying its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and the country will not give up its right under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty to enrich uranium and produce nuclear fuel. The United States and many European nations believe Iran's enrichment process is aimed at producing weapons.

McCain said Tehran's pursuit of nuclear weapons posed "an unacceptable risk" in that it would increase the threat of Iran-sponsored terrorist activities, render the nonproliferation treaty obsolete and cause non-nuclear nations such as Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia to "reassess" their own nuclear potential.

Iran, McCain said, "must understand that it cannot win a showdown with the world."

if she doesn't run, obama will get the nomination and lose the election. if she does, she'll get the nomination and (if she choses obama as a running mate) she will win.

we can beat obama, but not the hildebeast.

she did the same thing before she ran for the senate. I recall her seemingly endless "listening tour" before she finally declared to the election.

Does she know why the Secret Service was monitoring phone calls between Forstmann and Diana?

"I'm talking to people who have opinions about what our country needs to do going forward and whether or not I make any decisions, I can't really confront until after the first of the year," Clinton said.

Why .. what can't she confront until after the first of the year???

Also note she dropped the "I want to serve the people of NY who elected me" BS

The only think that might stop Hillary from deciding to run for the WH would be her becoming Majority Leader in the Senate.

The Senate position would be less contentious and would not bring up all the baggage she has. But, she would only want that position if it appeared likely that the Dems can hold on to a Senate majority for a long while.

She has been salivating over the possibility of sitting in the Oval Office as Chief Executive since Bill won. That appetite would be hard to satisfy in the Senate.

Yeh.

And that 'revelation' last week from a 'friend' was only one of many trial balloons she will float to see how things are going.

The ole Clinton machine is fully running (and has been since she won the Senate seat in 00).

Smart move on ITS part as there will be less time to get ITS major crimes before the public and IT can use her "husband" great BS to raise even more money.

The best scene would be for BJC's health to fail and she could get sympathy votes.

You're dead wrong.

Rudy will clean her clock. People don't trust her like they do him. Say she runs and wins the nomination, then picks Obama. Rudy picks Condi.

Rudy beats Hillary on likeability alone, and then Condi pwons Obama in the VP debate. I mean, she puts Obama up on the highchair and then feeds him strained carrots. It will be that one-sided. Don't get me wrong, I actually like Obama, but he's not quite ready for Prime Time.

Rudy went through the fire on 9/11 and proved himself to the country. People understand that.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

respectfully disagree - hillary's slime machine has yet to lay a finger on Rudy. by the time they're finished with him, he'll be dog meat.

him picking Condi would certainly help his ticket, but I still think that Hillary can beat him without much effort. She'll raise three times the money and spread so much !@#!@ about him around that he'll play defense the whole campaign.

Hillary will only run if she thinks it will be easy. No tough questions, no accounting for her prior bad acts, etc.

When she ran for Senate the first time, Rudy was dealing with prostate cancer, and decided not to run. Who was her competition ? Rick Lazio....Not to slam him, and he did the best he could, but he ws just not a strong candidate.

This time, fist Jeanne Pirro is in then out then some other idiot. Again, no competition, and she was the incumbent.

Hillary has got to know that the daggers will be hout for her, namely that of Peter Paul who is seriously PO's with how they scammmed him. Her campaign finance directer pled guilty to some fundraising thing related to the Paul mess.

The there is Osama Obama, The hairdoo(Edwards), The War Hero(Kerry), and an assortment of other democRATS who are every bit as determined to keep the Clintons out of the WH.

I don't think she'll run in a hotly contested race. But if things get weird, and she thinks she has an easy shot at it...she will get in.

Another listening tour.

Secret service keeps reporters away so there will be NO tough questions.

Not that the media would dare question her heinous.

Rudy dropped out of the Senate race because he didn't want to face Hillary, for some reason. Prostate cancer was the reason given. However, John Kerry had similar just months before he ran for the presidency in 04, and he seemed to manage.

If Hillary does get the Dem nod, Rudy will decline the GOP nod, I bet.

Wow. There is a lot wrong witht THAT post.

First, Rudy is no shoe in for the nomination. I'd crawl over broken glass myself to vote against him. Just the pic of him in drag and the fact that some think of him as a national leader is enough to turn my stomach.

Second, you "like" Obama?

Third, if these are the types of people (re: leftists) that are going to be on the ticket, we ARE doomed.
