Britain to US: Share JSF Technology or No Deal
DefenceTalk.com ^

Posted on 12/10/2006 10:43:40 PM PST by DTAD

Britain should cancel a deal with the United States to purchase Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) jets if America does not share sensitive technology by the end of the year, a report by the parliamentary defense committee will say, the Financial Times reported on Dec.8.

The yearly report on British weapons spending, which is due to be released Dec. 8, says “it is still uncertain whether the U.S. is prepared to provide the required information”, despite Prime Minister Tony Blair and President George W. Bush agreeing in May that Britain would get the technology it needed.

Thanks for the nasty opinionated answer, complete with the racial and cultural stereotypes. OK, we'll play it that way.

What you are saying therefore, is that you will deign to sell technology to your most stalwart ally, to help defend western civilisation with you, when and if we finally get a lid on an assassination of a foreigner, by foreigners, none of whom are tied with the current WOT, inasmuch as no one involved is Muslim?
Oh, and nice work with the prison complexes in Iraq. The prisoners sure deserved all the humiliation but taking PICTURES, and actually letting them become PUBLIC, really helped to inspire the islamists. VERY impressive. Alsmost as good as Bush saying we were on a crusade - does he know any history at all?

Thanks for the repetition. Your country appears to be slowly being assimilated with Mexico. Talk about lax immigration policies when your own porous borders have been patched up.

PS It not that impressive to "take the Pearl Harbor shot for the civilized world" two and a half years after the second world war was declared. You had PLENTY of time to figure out the fascists were going for world domination by then.

No defence is perfect. Yes Spain took a train shot and we did too. IIRC 47 people died that day and numerous others were horribly injured. I'm sure that they feel the sacrifice was worthwhile to help you make your cheap point.

As for the little tailor, yes he did swat flies, but he was a reluctant hero, not a braggart. And if you recall, he actually DID kill the giant in the end.

Finally, while we're still on the topic of stopping "muslim extremists attempting to hijack planes", I'm certainly aware that the US has been stopping (not catching) them since 9/11. That may be because they havent tried it since.

See y'all, ya ornery galoot.

Yes, but the point is that you only know about those spys and traitors because THEY GOT CAUGHT!

Baloney!! Kim Philby, defected to the USSR. Go read about the rest of the The Cambridge Five. Most were suspected, but not caught. 'Fifth Man' John Cairncrossas confessed and then moved to Rome.

I didn't enjoy having to write that. If you are an American and you feel offended by it, then consider how I, a Brit, felt about the posts that provoked it.

PS And I apologise to you too

Ignore the guy, he's just a newbie troll, on a dick-waving mission, to aggravate us.

At this point, I'm not disposed to give that country anything until they replace the thousands of hunting arms that American civilians lent them for "The Home Guard" -- which, at the end of WWII, instead of being returned to us, were thrown in the damn ocean!

(And that of course assumes that they'd also get a handle on their role as "Club Med" for Russian spies -- and, stop treating Islam as if it were the State Religion -- and stop penalizing Christianity as if it were the ugly stepchild.)

Until then, anyone from "over there" who feels like coming over here to piss and moan about us not GIVING them vital state secrets can take a hike.

Just to clarify -- I hold nothing against the British people (other than the trollish sort). One of my best friends married a truly wonderful English lady. Another good friend -- an American, who studied at Oxford -- is now an Anglican Priest. His (also American) wife is an academic, working on medieval translations at Cambridge. I am addicted to HP Sauce, and my only source for Selenium Photocells (for restoring light meters and cameras) is a British company.

The U.K. government, however, is... how can I put this diplomatically? Despicable. It's despicable beyond comprehension.

It was, what, two, maybe three years ago, that they refused to release a country gentleman from prison -- where he was incarcerated for the "crime" of self-defense against a home invader.

WHY did they refuse to release him after he'd served his sentence? Because his rulers feared that he would pose "a danger to burglars."

You can't make up stuff like that. But they sure can! Criminals are a protected species -- and the good people of that land are their prey, forbidden to protect themselves. They are taught to obey the criminals, to do what they're told. As a result, daylight home invasions have skyrocketed. Lowlives come crashing in, do what they want, take what they want, and their poor victims sit there, helpless, hoping that the bastards will be satisfied with the loot they steal, and leave them their lives.

Is it any wonder that the place has become a haven for every vile sort ranging from Russian spies to Radical Islamists? The place is a madhouse, courtesy of their government, and there's nothing the decent people can do about it, other than, I suppose, sit there murmuring to themselves that Orwell was right as rain.

The jury is still out about them speaking Russian. Drudge has a story on its site this morning about how Putin is seizing Shell's stake in the Sakahlin-2 Gas Project.

Putin is nationalizing $20B.

Meanwhile, the incoming House Intel chair can't locate his glutes without a map and a flashlight.

Its not Baloney. I know about Philby and the cambridge five. The point is they and their activites were uncovered.

All nations have a spy problem. Its not going to affect this project because everything is organised vertically. PHilby knew an awful lot about his specialist area of intelligence operations, but nothing about anything else. This is quite usual. All espionage and counter-espionage agencies are organised like this.

MASSIVE anti-American rant in #61.

Not so. Its just an exact copy of the anti-Brit rant in #55, duly modified for a US audience. I dont believe it. These things are always more complex than the simplistic "he-man" rants that some folk think they have to make. Lets just put it this way: The Americans did what they had to do for their national interests and the Brits did what they had to do for theirs. This process goes on to this day. It so happens that these interests coincide now. I dont deny that there is more to it than that - Im sure there is - I think the US and the UK have a "thing" going, but in the final analysis, you and your leaders are looking after your own and we are doing the same. This is perfectly natural and nothing to be ashamed of.

EXCUSE ME - I didnt start this! Nor am I a newbie.

Umm...OK...so you want the hunting weapons back. Hmm..it would probably cost more to transport them back and return them to their original owners than they were worth. Is this really a problem for you? Really? Honestly?

Yes well. I can't deny that. It is hideous. I've no problem with the law being biased to the defendant - it can be a little frustrating now and again but, innocent until proven guilty and all that. What I do find bad is that the law seems to be biassed AGAINST the victim.

It's bad in the UK now, and I think that the US is going along that path too. We need to stop the well-meaning but totally wrong liberals who are pushing this!

This is, perhaps, a subject for another thread.

Of course there was going to be a deal. Think Trident and the special relationship that has allows the US to base rights at Menwith Hill. The deal has been struck.
