Hell has a new employee...Pinochet is dead at 91.
LOL!
I take the murder of even one seriously. Something is very, very wrong here that we have some so-called conservatives who're willing to give the guy a pass because he only murdered a few thousand people. They must think Richard III was a freakin' saint, because he only killed his nephews.
You sound like you are a wonk for the Baker commission...you know the committee that comes out with the "victory is not an option".
The ones who say that we cannot offend the saudis..we have to keep the world safe for the corporates and the keep that oil flowing.
Pinochet is a hero...and when the Latins are finished with their Chavezes and cocaine snorting fake Indios..they will return to sanity. I'm more worried about the defeatists on our shores.
I'm gonna recommend "The Black Book of Communism" for you. It's a good read and very enlightening.
There were only 3000 in Chile affiliated with the Communist party?
Will do...but I think it's dangerous in this day-and-age to converse with anyone with "teen" in their name.
Not a good policy to grant the name...not a good policy to converse.
Just my 2-cents. No more said.
So, you are running a government that is under attack by soviet-funded marxists, what do you do? It's a war. You are allowing these people to get away with what the terrorists are currently getting away with i.e. claiming that because they are not in uniform they should be dealt with by the civil justice system.
Sir, I'm sorry, but I must dispute with you on the idea that there are people truly so fallen. The Scriptures teach that the Holy Spirit are given to ALL, and that there are chances for everyone to be saved and come into redemption and faith. There are certainly those who, by their crimes, deserve death, but to say that there are those who have become so depraved that the Holy Spirit is forever inaccessible to them, even by the most drastic of conversions, well, I just can't agree with that.
And again I don't think that executions without trial are particularly sanctioned by the Scriptures.
Fair enough; just remember that I am communism just as well, but I am also against brutal dictatorships no matter the stripe.
Allende totally subverted the Chilean constitution and was turning the place into a dictatorship. Both the Chilean Congress and Supreme Court asked the military to intervene. Please don't tell me that you think once someone is elected they can then do whatever they want since they were elected. There would not have been another election in Chile, Allende was turning the place into a marxist dictatorship.
Even if Pinochet was an anti-communist, why would anyone want to align themselves with a dictator?
I condemn all dictators, not just leftist ones.
It is no leftism to support freedom and democracy.
We take issue with the word murder. Currently, the left is letting the islamo facists in afghanistan and Iraq claim that because they are not in uniform we have to treat them as civil cirminals and give them trial, etc. You are allowing the communists to get away with this same thing. These 3,000 people were marxist rebels, who happend to not wear uniforms. They were engaged in a war, and Pinochet treated them as enemy soldiers, just as we will hopefully do when the muslims step up their activities in the US.
Right, but while he was getting rid of legitimate targets, what about people who were uninvolved and innocent that were killed in all the excitement? Couldn't he had tread more carefully when he was prosecuting the suspected?
I've read it, almost a decade ago when it was still headline news. I don't doubt for a second that communism was evil. I don't doubt that the USSR was anything short of pure evil and that innocents suffered horribly under the communist government. None of that is in question, none of it.
However, back to murder. Because the USSR was what it was, does not mean that you can bullet into the back of the head of a coed who may happen to call herself a communist it doesn't work that way.
Back to Pinochet. Pinochet didn't kill in the name of war, civil or otherwise. His regime murdered innocents. Teachers, students, journalists, and anyone else who would dare to disagree with him. It slays me that you hate the USSR so much, yet idolize a man who embodies the same evil, and inflicted the same terrors on this people just on a smaller scale.
NO! You're not about to spin this into an unarmed combatant scenerio. The truth is that many of Pinochet's victims were unarmed, drug out of their houses in the middle of the night or simply disappeared. This is not a situation analogous to a civil war where combatants out of uniform were killed.
Pinochet's political enemies were killed. Anyone who dared to publically question him was killed. These people were not combatants.
But you're acting as if they were all reds doing partisan fighting, smuggling munitions to pro-commie forces, blowing up gov't buildings, and what the Pinochet regime did in response was to simply have military tribunals before executing them. Is that what happened?
A stroke of brilliance. You said in a single sentence what I've been trying to say this entire thread.
Just because Allende and the communists had to be gone, doesn't mean it should have happened is such a violent and lawless way. Are you sure that all of the people that Allende had killed were guerrilla fighters and those actively acting to overthrow the gov't?
Pinochet did not treat the people he killed as enemy soldiers. Captured enemy soldiers are not summarily executed or tortured to death, at least not in any civilized country.
