The coalition of environmental entrepreneurs and venture capitalists who lobbied hard for California's global warming law now wants to take its efforts nationwide.
It just hasn't decided which policies to push.
The Greentech Innovation Network -- created by venture powerhouse Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers -- met Thursday and Friday in Berkeley to discuss which policies and technologies could most effectively fight global warming. The group heard advice from experts including a federal energy official, the president of Iceland and former Vice President Al Gore.
John Denniston, a partner with Kleiner Perkins, said the organization is already talking with members of Congress.
"You can expect to see us being very active," he said. "My sense, and our sense as a group, is that the political winds have shifted dramatically."
With their finance and technology credentials, the network's members played a key role in persuading California lawmakers to back Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's effort to cap the emission of greenhouse gases. The network has not yet decided whether to call for a nationwide limit, Denniston said. But the idea is on the table, with California Sen. Barbara Boxer and Sen. Dianne Feinstein already saying they want the federal government to follow California's lead.
The network will work with the bipartisan Silicon Valley advocacy group TechNet to pick global warming policies it wants to pursue.

Gore, who has made fighting climate change a personal crusade, warned against efforts by the coal industry to build more coal-burning power plants across the country and use coal as the raw material for new motor fuels.
"Turning coal into motor fuels without capturing the carbon is literally insane," Gore said. "Junkies find veins in their toes when they use up the ones in their arms."

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
Look at it this way, it was a short Ice Age ,,,,
but we are looking at a long Fleecing Age,,
lots of wealth will likely be transferred if these numbnuts get there way, trading emissions credits, selling solar and other alternative fuel and energy sources to the masses.
One should keep in kind,
Global Warming happens, whether man is here or not..
Deceit and trickery only occurs when man is present and willing to forsake decency in the pursuit of wealth...
all for the common good, mind you. ;-)
Point taken, :-)
"Liberals are concerned over a purely hypothetical threat but dismissive of the very real threat right now that can kill tens of thousands in a nuclear strike. The Left has its priorities exactly backwards."
Amen.
That's why they are called the "Loonie Left".
It's just about money. Nothing but money. Follow the money.
thanks ,Ahnold: import illegals and export stupidity.
export stupidity...
and now, inmates as well.
That pretty much sums him up.
Ahnoldt doesn't get this one.
Regarding your positive proof of global warming graphic: I will run it by Mrs. jimfree. Ann is a costume historian and should be able to validate.
Are those from AlGore's family tree, er, clothesline?
Last night I wrapped gifts for "tips" at my local Borders bookstore. This Borders offers gift wrapping and lets volunteers work the table for donations benefitting various little non-profit efforts. I wrapped for a friend's cat rescue group.
There were two large signs on the table about the rescue group. (Donations go toward spay/neutering and myriad medical costs of making sick and injured homeless cats healthy and adoptable.) Almost everyone put a dollar or two, sometimes a twenty, into the tip jar after I beautifully wrapped their gift books, cd's, whatnot.
Only two individuals left without donating a single cent and they had something in common: Both presented Al Gore's insipid, junk-science tome "An Inconvenient Truth" for me to wrap. For free.
One of the men grunted to me that his brother-in-law was a "non-believer." This book was his Christmas gift to him.
There are so many reasons to dislike liberals.
