WASHINGTON -- Senator Judd Gregg of New Hampshire yesterday used his last major floor speech as chairman of the Senate Budget Committee to blast his own party's leadership in Congress, accusing Republican leaders of engaging in the type of fiscal recklessness that he said led voters to oust the GOP from power. Gregg, who will give up the Budget Committee gavel when his party relinquishes control of Congress in January, issued his unusually harsh critique in reference to a sweeping tax-cut bill that Republicans were rushing through in the final hours of the congressional session. "The American people took the reins of government away from the Republican Party relative to the Republican Congress in this last election," Gregg said in a speech on the Senate floor. "They did so, I think, in large part because they were tired of our hypocrisy as a party on the issue of fiscal responsibility. And it would appear that their concerns are justified. It is true, I guess."

Does anyone know if his floor speeches are availiable on the Internet? I will post the speeches from the Congressional Record.
Sounds like a sore loser to me. All of the sudden, a "Republican" thinks tax CUTS are bad? Jeeeesh!
Tax cuts work only if there's a corresponding decrease in government spending too.
When are all the usual losers in the Junk Media going to wake up to something anyone who pays any attention to US Politics has know since the 1980s? Taxcuts pay for themselves by increaing economic activity and generating MORE revenue. The problem has ALWAYS been the FASTS growing cost of anything is Govt Spending. It grows faster then even health care costs or school tuition costs! We do not have a taxing problem, we have a SPENDING problem.
True, but give us the tax cuts anyways. We taxpayers can use it.
They should have rammed home a spending reduction before walking out the door.
Making a statement by reducing spending would be a better approach to looking forward to the next election.
If he's bitching about the spending that's something else but I suspect he has seen the writing on the wall. New Hampshire is no longer the Live Free or Die state due to invasion from the east and southeast.
Most of the tax cuts they extended were goofy things like for solar panels and arcane things like tax credits on sales taxes for people who live in states without an income tax.
If they wanted to win real brownie points with the voters, they should have scrapped all of these piecemeal items and passed significant tax reform.
The good senator should see a physician soon ~ may be too far gone to engage in politics or something.
What a total whack job.
Youv'e got that right. they really need to change that State motto.
The authors of that would probably shoot half of the current crop on sight.
He was apparently also very frustrated with some provision regarding health care for coal miners.
So I do think spending was an element as well.
If the GOP had raised taxes instead, the RATS would raise them again, bet on it.
"The Senator's right. What good are tax cuts if it's going to get swallowed up by spending anyway?
Tax cuts work only if there's a corresponding decrease in government spending too."
bump to those sentiments
A tax cut without a cut in spending is really just a deferment.
You left out the invasion from the south: The Commonwealth of Massholechusetts.
I know this is hard for you to believe, but that's what they did. Only at the last minute did anyone realize that this probably made the difference in the Virginia election and lost them the control of the Senate.
What a bunch of dunderheads.
EXACTLY!
They did cut $40B in spending before the election. And these are renewals, not new cuts.
