Great choice. I wonder if the left will haul out "plantation Muslims" to "Uncle Tom" him a-la previous "race traitors" like Clarence Thomas. (Don't know who to adjust the terminology for a Neocon Muslim.)

The announcement of "Zalmay Khalilzad" to be our UN representative only proves that no more Bush family should become national GOP candidates. This gets filed in the "What Were They Thinking" folder.

Before everyone goes all hysterical....(too late)...we MUST understand that the most effective person to bring about change in the Muslim world might just be a, well MUSLIM.
We are not, nor should we, just "kill them all" and people who suggest such are neither Christian or Human. Islam as a political force must be reformed away from extremist oppression just as a Christianity was. An outsider can not do that. Kahlilzad will know the language and respect the culture. How that is a bad thing in diplomacy I will never know.
This man will not MAKE policy, he will simply be a Muslim representative of OUR policy. The hysterics about this are just silly, embarrassing and, frankly stupid.

Khalilzad has an excellent track record.
Weren't all the anti-Miers crowd up in arms because Miers did not have the "paper trail" they wanted.
Now Khalilzad got an excellent paper trail and they're still whining? Sheesh.

Zalmay Khalilzad is one tough guy and will do well in that UN position. We should be so lucky. His performance in Afghanistan and Iraq has been stellar. The guy knows the score!

Zalmay Khalilzad, who was announced this week as leaving as U.S. ambassador to Iraq, is the leading prospect to replace John Bolton as envoy to the United Nations.
Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. What the hell is Bush thinking?

So far, I don't see anything to be alarmed about. Zalmay Khalilzad appears to be a solid choice. I'd like to wait and hear what he has to say, read from those that know him personally, before I make any real judgment.

Get the US out of the foul, stinking corrupt UN, and get the foul, stinking corrupt UN out of the US. We need to scream it right into the scumbag politicians' faces every minute of every day.

More religion of peace crap from the republican't party.
It would fit right in with the persistant never ending love affair the white house has with all things muslim. In fact he would be outstanding in continuing the President's policy of doing absolutely nothing against Iran while Iran kills our troops in Iraq, year after year.
I wonder if he would interrupt the U.N. five times a day so all moslems could pray.

"...and is the highest-ranking Muslim in the Bush administration."That does it for me. I distrust Muslims and will not support any of them for a government post.

He was appointeed by Pres. Reagan to oversee foreign policy in the Middle East.
Is that a fact too inconvenient to the Bush bashers and the anti-Islam crowd?
Thanks to all of those who are supporting Khalilzad. I used to think Western bigotry was dead. I see it merely shifted. I wonder who'll get the shaft next?

to all readers:
Neither do I have the intention, nor the time, to reply specifically on all those expressions of mistrust.
I will just say clearly and frankly that Khalilzad is one of the BEST choices we could make for UN Ambassador.
I couldn't care less whether he was born in Afghanistan. He is THE shining example of a Muslim (he is considered an infidel by muslims by the way...) living and serving with UTMOST loyalty our cause. He has contributed more to the War on Terror than many of those respondents who mistrust him.
He is a conservative, an American, a patriot and a HAWK. He has served as Ambassador to Afghanistan and Iraq... he is simply put a helluva guy.
I warmly recommend all those who mistrust him to inform themselves on him.
That being said... Khalilzad for US Ambassador to the UN!
