Your whole argument is that we are not part of the trendy set. But the conservative position and the rightful position is that homosexual couples do not need equal access to the adoption of children.
I would rather be (in William F. Buckley's words), "standing astride the world and yelling STOP" than standing cool and trendy and watch Chattanooga become San Francisco. If you want to live in the Castro District you can but I would rather live among good cowboys, rednecks, rebels, boxers, surfers, and women that appreciate em.
Some may have called the freeing of slaves *trendy* and opposed it right to the end. Others may have called giving women the *vote* trendy. It doesn't matter - change is coming and not just on this issue. And some want to retreat into the past. They are free to make that choice. Probably they will not want to live in New York, California, New Jersey, Connecticut, Washington, Massachusetts etc
