U.S., Iraqi troops seal off Haditha - residents (Oh, the humanity!)

BAGHDAD, Dec 8 (Reuters) - U.S. and Iraqi troops have sealed off the city of Haditha in Anbar province, in the heartland of the Sunni insurgency, and have warned residents to keep off the streets and stay indoors, officials and residents said on Friday.

The U.S. military said troops were manning checkpoints and building a sand berm to crack down on insurgents in Haditha and in neighbouring Barwana. It said U.S. troops were protecting "the population and good citizens of Haditha".

But residents in Haditha, which is at the centre of a U.S. military investigation into the deaths of two dozen civilians in November 2005 by U.S. Marines, said electricity has been cut off and that no food is being allowed into the city.

Schools have been forced to close, they said.

While the U.S. military has acknowledged it shut down electrical power in the area during recovery efforts following the death of four U.S. troops last week when a Marine helicopter came down, it has blamed current power losses on "maintenance requirements" at a nearby dam.

"This is the sixth day Haditha is without electricity," one resident said on Friday.

News from that wonderful place called Haditha. No food is allowed into the city! Schools forced to closed! Marines killed innocent civilians in cold blood!

Say anything. The MSM will bite.

Doesn't sound like we are pulling out of Anbar.

I thought most of them were so far back in the times, they haven't heard of electricity yet.

Could this be the same peaceful town of Haditha that the Time magazine stringer reporter and the doctor at the medical clinic live in that have ties to the terrorists? I'll just bet it's the same town.

Both of them were sources for the original Time magazine story that named our Marines as killing innocent civilians.

What a hellhole! Haditha, Haqlaniyah, Barwana. How many have troops have we lost in that little patch of ground by the river? 40? 60? I've lost count.

These people don't mind living in a bit of squalor. You'd think they'd rather keep it this way simply because advanced technologies like the light bulb are too Western.

They harbor these savages, they've supported them, they've cheered for them. I have no sympathy for them. I'm running low on altruism when it comes to Iraq.

The POTUS had to send some very strong messages to Maliki last week.
This plus the news we got in another post from jmc1969 as how Maliki just gave the US forces carte blance on dealing with the Sadrist.
I believe the shit is going to start hitting the fan. And all those that have been resisting this new Iraqi government may now have to wonder when their number is up.

They had better not shoot anybody. They'll end up in the Camp Pendleton Brig for sure.

Two days without electricity? The media would have us to think that this is utterly terrible.

Have those poor citizens out in the St. Louis area gotten their electricity back after it has been out for several days? If it is a chance to bash the President or the troops anything at all is okay with the media.
