In 1998, white officers were 87 percent of the nation's 641,208 police and accounted for 82 percent of justifiable homicides by police. Black officers were 11 percent of the nation's police and accounted for 17 percent of all justifiable homicides.

Wow - a reporter that skews the facts. There, fixed it...

Why do I say that? Because of use of the term "justifiable killings". Who investigates the circumstances of if it was justified or not? OH, that would be the cops, wouldn't it? That makes the rest just B.S..

The 14 year old that he "almost" shot would have been deemed "justified", without question.

It is my opinion that if you are a law abiding citizen that does not associate with criminals, you are much more likely to have a loaded gun pointed at you by a cop than by a criminal. And if he/she shoots you by mistake, you can bet your a$$ that it will be "justifiable". After all, he "thought" you had a gun...

Two comments that indicate what a foolish thing it is you wrote.

First, the justifiable is applied to all the cases they investigate whether they are committed by black or white cops so whether you think they are really justified or not does not matter the issue is the racial disparity. It is still more for whites than blacks. Unless you want to say cops are covering more for killing blacks than whites.

What proof do I need that these situations are investigated by cops?

And isn't it possible that a black cop is less likely to think he can get away with an unjustified shooting?

IMHO, the issue has nothing to do with the race of the cop, and everything to do with the fact that cops (any race) get a pass when they "make a mistake". This promotes carelessness.

They should be held to the same standard that you would be held to if you, for some reason, had to use deadly force. You damn well better not make a mistake or you will be charged.
