Love the picture of Rummy and Cheney together. Personally I think both men are much better looking now.

I walked the corridors of the Pentagon one day and saw Sec Rumsfeld standing by the escalator by the Joint Staff corridor, chatting with some mid-level officers.

People walked by him like he was another Joe, acting like it was no big deal. But as they got about 10 feet past him, their faces lit up and they nodded to each other.

Some Generals hated him, but most LOVED the guy. Why? He was and is a frickin LEADER.

I know an SES who served during the Sec Cohen plague. He described him as (and I quote): "The worst excuse for a man I ever met."

Rummy, by comparison, was a fearless leader and SECDEF.

We are now a poorer nation that he is departing.

Thank you for asking, STARWISE!

Well, we went to the doctor yesterday and I had a chance to see the x-rays and the phone photo he took of the bones coming out of his skin. He has seven screws and a plate in his ankle, and hobbles around on his crutches. This really aggravates his old wrist injury from when he was a policeman and he tore ligaments in his wrist.

He's in remarkably good spirits. I've FINALLY got my house in order, and am going outside to put up lights and get this Christmas thang happenin' 'round here!!! ;-)

You all have been so kind to keep him in your thoughts....like I said FReeper FRiends are the BEST!

Thanks again for asking about him, STARWISE!

It was never our intention to defeat the enemy in a matter of weeks.

We wanted Iraq to serve as the sandbox for the enemy to come and play with us in.

Iraq is the enemy's quagmire and Rummy is nothing short of a genius.

Why should we apologize for Abu Garaib when it was absolutely the best psy op we had against the enemy in the entire war? Allah's great virgin orgy in the sky was mocked to perfection.

Read "Imperial Grunts." You'll rethink your assessment.

Yes, I heard correctly. Rummy said learning of the prison scandal was the worst day of his life. It was sad that he had to cow tow to somebody in his going away speech. I'm in agreement w/you on Abu Garab.

"Did Rummy say that his worst day on the job was "the prison abuse"? How is that possible? He was dragging people out of the burning Pentagon on 9-11."

I'd agree with him.

The heroism that sprang from the tragedies of 9/11 makes my heart swell. It was a horrible day, but in it there was much to be proud of. By comparison, the treasonous media propaganda that snowballed from Abu Ghraib makes me seethe with rage at what the Left, here and abroad, has done to America. If we "lose" in Iraq--as in Vietnam--it will be because of that, not because of the physical attacks we have suffered.

"We wanted Iraq to serve as the sandbox for the enemy to come and play with us in."

I agree entirely. Strategically, it was and remains brilliant.

It also gives us a geographically central staging site for pacifying the region. And, conveniently, it results in Iran surrounded. It's a much more valuable position than our former site in Saudi Arabia. (Having said that, we should have left some operations intact in Saudi Arabia. Pulling all operations out was a propaganda victory for the Islamists, for whom U.S. presence in Saudi was an irritant.)

Rummy is my top choice for POTUS

You know, this is the first time I have thought of Rumsfeld as a candidate. My preference would be Cheney, but after him, I could get excited about Rumsfeld--except, I have one question.

Who made the decision back in 2003, when the Marines had Sadr surrounded and were ready to wipe out him and his army, to stop them and spare Sadr? That decision, I believe, was the beginning of this runaway insurgency we have found ourselves in ever since.

Further, my guy for POTUS must me a manwho will put the diplomatic agenda behind the military one whenever we are in combat. IOW, the diplomats are #1 before the shooting starts, then, they are last until the military has accomplished whatever it was that involved them in the first place. Besided, then the diplomats will have a much more cooperative group of people to deal with.

Did anyone stop to think that the reason the military strategy in Iraq is not working as well as we all hoped it would is....

DRUM ROLL PLEASE

The enemy has guns and ammunition too?

I hate to give the islamofascists credit, but every time the USA is faced with an enemy who actually punches back, that doesn't mean you go run to your mommy Nancy Pelosi.
