Well, we knew this was coming. Via MSNBC:
On Friday, the U.S. District Court in Washington will be the scene of a parting shot at outgoing Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld. Former detainees represented by human rights groups accuse him along with a top general of the Iraq war, a former commander of the infamous Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and a commander of U.S. military intelligence and police forces with "derelictions of duty and command" and promoting the practice of inflicting "physical and psychological injuries" on civilians held by the U.S. military in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Guess who is one those leading the charge in this lawsuit?
Lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union and Human Rights First argue that Rumsfeld "authorized an abandonment of our nation's inviolable and deep-rooted prohibition against torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment of detainees in U.S. military custody." They say these acts precipitated "further violations of law and directly led to the abuse of Plaintiffs and other detainees in Afghanistan and Iraq."
The judge is a Reagan appointee, so hopefully some common sense will prevail. I also hope that Bush doesn't stay silent on this and speaks up on how idiotic this lawsuit is.

The subversive, anti-American agenda of the ACLU, and their minions, is clear. When will the government of this country stand up to such subversion and treason???

Only after the fecal matter hits the whirly blades!
I fear that we are in for a long spell of limp-wristed, conciliatory government practices, except for where it comes to diminishing the rights of the majority. I also fear that it will take another major attack on the homeland
to get blinders lowered.

We all know that the ACLU was set up originally to defend communists. Therefore, it is inherently Anti-American.

Exactly. President Bush has two years to let the RATS get their shots in at whoever. Then his parting gift to all who have given so much of their personal lives to serve this country can be pardoned en masse. That would include all military. If charges are hanging over Pres Bush, then he can step aside the day before his term ends and let President Dick Cheney pardon him. For all I know, President Bush could pardon himself as well. That would really be a hoot.

When did it become legal to sue the government?
To: Jay777
What a freaking bunch of commie idiots. How did they ever get so much power? It may be more important for the future of this country to stop the ACLU before global terrorism.

That lady general allowed a sex fetish clique to run rampant in her own prison. Hard to sympathize with her.

That is what I cannot understand. The ACLU makes me want to puke. I have written my reps about them to no avail and do not even get and answer back from them. Bunch of sniveling cowards.

As far as I am concerned, the officer in charge of that prison is where any fault lies.

Imagine if Clinton had been able to pass the international criminal court on the USA.
We would have been defending on two fronts, one in Iraq and one in Brussels.
The only way to stop the ACLU is to remove the attorney fee clause on the law. The ACLU gets paid by tax payers win or lose.

we have to be specific.
We have to move to repeal the automatic attorney fee provision in the law.
The ACLU is financially dependant, along with atheist groups, civil rights groups, and homsoexual activists, upon the automatic award of attorney fees.
Essentially you have to extend the prohibition of award from the plaintiffs to the lawyers. The ADA for example prohibits plaintiffs from recieving monetary awards. That provision should also apply to attorneys.
You have to be specific or it will not register since most people do the ACLU=bad statement. FORCE the politicians to explain why taxpayers are being forced to support the ACLU through an attorney fee loophole.
