Diversity of Opinion on Imams' Dispute With Airline [WaPo Whitewash alert]
Washington Post ^ | December 8, 2006 | by Kari Lydersen, Washington Post Staff Writer

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 7 -- For years, the Minneapolis-St. Paul area has been known for its liberalism and tolerance, especially when it comes to religion. Many Muslims, including the largest population of Somalis outside of Mogadishu, make their home in the Twin Cities. The area just elected the nation's first Muslim congressman, Keith Ellison (D).

"We are well known for acceptance at a period in time when much of America feels like an unwelcome place" for Muslims, said Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak. "This is a place where Muslims are succeeding and thriving in leadership positions."

So, last month's removal of six imams from a Phoenix-bound US Airways flight at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has prompted hand-wringing, finger-pointing, calls for greater sensitivity to religious diversity and more communication between non-Muslims and Muslims.

Police and airline officials say the imams, who attended a national conference of Muslim clerics, were removed after exhibiting suspicious behavior, including uttering anti-American statements, changing their seat assignments so that they would be scattered around the airplane and asking for seat-belt extenders, which could be used as weapons. Valerie Wunder, a spokeswoman for US Airways, said yesterday that the airline has completed its investigation of the incident and has concluded that the flight crew was justified in its actions.

But the imams say the behavior in question was merely quiet prayers before boarding the flight.

The imams lie.

They were loud, disruptive, deliberately chose a seating arrangement reminiscent of 9/11, asked for unneeded seat belt extenders...

It was a planned provocation.

"But Sumbal Mahmud, a Minneapolis lawyer and spokeswoman for the Islamic Center of Minnesota, thinks local residents still have a lot to learn about Muslims."

I would have to agree with that part. If the locals (or most of America) were at all educated about Islam, they would properly treat it as the cult following of a madman.

The Wapo story takes quotes and gives the story only from the Muslim side. How hard would it have been to interview some of the passenger, crew, or get the police report? If the 9-11 killers would have been kicked off their planes the Wapo would have written this same story.

Quiet prayers????????? Then where did all the TV camera's come from? I think they planned this disturbance. Now...I do not want to be a muslim, I don't want to learn about the muslim religion, I don't want my country to become a muslim nation. They say it is not a religion but a way of life. If what they say is true......then "Freedom of Religion" doesn't apply. This makes it a cult.

As usual, Wash Post bends over backward to defend those who are trying to take over our country and want to destroy our way of life. It is also interesting that the Post was a little late getting on this bandwagon. They were hoping their readers wouldn't find out what the flying imams were up to, and were embarrassed into covering the story after it received widespread media attention.

We must be fair here.

This may actually let the WaPo off the hook as it is prima facie evidence that they are too stupid to be a threat to national security (or taken seriously, for that matter).

(Sarcasm tag intuitively obvious to the most casual observer.)

Pictures say it all...and don't think it can't happen again. We seem to have forgotten WHO attacked WHO on 9/11, using OUR country, OUR equipment, and killing three thousand of OUR citizens. Islamic Muslim TERRORISTS are world wide...their so called bible calls for the destruction and death of Israel, and the United States, including and containing all countries with who we do business...most of the world. There isn't a country who hasn't been effected...and what next will it take to wake America up?? Appeasement is for losers...and consensus shows lack of leadership to agressively assess and attack a problem. The Democrat Party fits this definition...no grit and no agenda to secure our borders and country. The GOP showed us what they thought about the border problem in the last election. Leadership is sadly lacking just about everywhere.

The pictures of Islamic terrorism are now being censored at FR as they are on MSM.

I wonder why?? Why would FR censor the pictures? The American bodies hanging on the bridge should be all anyone needs to see to understand who the enemy is.

Mission accomplished. The MSM is on the imams' side, and the airlines will be more worried about adverse publicity the next time...making it easier for a real terrorist attack to succeed.

From the article:

Local Muslims of various ethnicities are united in their anger over the imams' treatment. The Metropolitan Airports Commission met last week with local imams who are calling for a prayer room to be created at the airport, where many Somali Muslims are employed.

Sounds like an excellent place to consume some crunchy & crumbly pork rinds.
