Hillary may have the buzz, but Rudy has the better poll numbers - at least for now. A new WNBC/Marist College survey yesterday found that while Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is the most popular presidential option among Democrats, a whopping 47% of all voters say they would "definitely not" vote for the former First Lady if she runs for President in 2008. By contrast, a full two-thirds of voters say they remain open to voting for former Mayor Rudy Giuliani - who would best Clinton, 49% to 43%, if the 2008 race were held today. The numbers suggest that the Republican Giuliani - whose pre-9/11 record remains a blank to most voters - has room to grow, while Clinton begins with nearly half the electorate aligned against her, experts said.
"The bottom line is that there is very little room for error in a Hillary-for-President campaign," says Marist College pollster Lee Miringoff. Not that Giuliani is without challenges. The poll found that while Giuliani remains the top pick among GOP voters, a full 47% of those voters - when told that Giuliani is pro-choice, pro-gun control and pro-gay rights - say such issues could be a "major factor" in their eventual decision. Aides to Giuliani declined to comment on the numbers, but Clinton pollster Mark Penn argued that Clinton has consistently proven she can expand her base of supporters. "When she started in New York, many people said they'd never vote for her - and she just won reelection with 67% of the electorate," said Penn.

Uhhhhhh... I think they said it would be a "major factor". That is not the same as ruling him out entirely.
Last election for president the south went in unison for a republican. If Rino Rudy is the nominee I do not think you will see that happen. The republican can not win with out the south.

Why would the South vote for Hillary Clinton or another Democrat over any Republican? If the South's voting Democrat, so are more than 270 electoral votes in the rest of the country.
Similarly, if a Democrat screws up so badly as to lose New England states like Maine and Connecticut, he has already lost in the rest of the country.
It's part of being the base, but not typical for the country as a whole.
I'm not necessarily on the Rudy bandwagon, but your forumla presumes that Republican's write off New York and California. Giuliani could take those states.
I do not know what he will do, neither do you. He has not real foreign relations experience. We know what he says he will do. But we also know what politico's words are worth.

The good news is Rudy would likely give Hillary a run for the money in California and force her to expend a lot of capital in that state for all those electorial votes.
I can refer you to how Rudy has treated the Saudis and terrorists like Yasser Arafat in the past, even in the most liberal city in the country with the Clintons and the New York Slimes attacking him. I can refer you to Giuliani's unequivocal support for the war on terror, his recent slamming of the Iraq Surrender Group (Giuliani was originally on it, but quit since it had an agenda), and his 100% support for President Bush even at a time when everyone is sticking a knife in the President's back.
