Rudy's A Down-Hil Racer In Prez Poll (Marist Poll)
NY Daily News ^ | 12/08/06

Hillary may have the buzz, but Rudy has the better poll numbers - at least for now.

A new WNBC/Marist College survey yesterday found that while Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is the most popular presidential option among Democrats, a whopping 47% of all voters say they would "definitely not" vote for the former First Lady if she runs for President in 2008.

By contrast, a full two-thirds of voters say they remain open to voting for former Mayor Rudy Giuliani - who would best Clinton, 49% to 43%, if the 2008 race were held today.

The numbers suggest that the Republican Giuliani - whose pre-9/11 record remains a blank to most voters - has room to grow, while Clinton begins with nearly half the electorate aligned against her, experts said.

"The bottom line is that there is very little room for error in a Hillary-for-President campaign," says Marist College pollster Lee Miringoff.

Not that Giuliani is without challenges.

The poll found that while Giuliani remains the top pick among GOP voters, a full 47% of those voters - when told that Giuliani is pro-choice, pro-gun control and pro-gay rights - say such issues could be a "major factor" in their eventual decision.

Aides to Giuliani declined to comment on the numbers, but Clinton pollster Mark Penn argued that Clinton has consistently proven she can expand her base of supporters.

"When she started in New York, many people said they'd never vote for her - and she just won reelection with 67% of the electorate," said Penn.

Ok - I stand corrected.

Who do you like in the race as it stands today?

Suit yourself, I refuse to compromise my convictions, and vote for someone that looks no different than the Hildabeast.

I do not know yet, but I will lean to the Constitution Party if Rino Rudy wins the nomination. I have to see who is running. The way I pick who I will vote for is simple. I make a list of all the issues that matter to me. I then make columns for all the candidates and give each a mark for the one whose position is closest to me. Only 2 issues are deal killers with me anti gun and pro abortion, which Rino Rudy is against me on both. I will have to see who is running. As for now I support Duncan Hunter and Sam Brownback in that order.

You would need a Pat Robertson-like candidate to satisfy your criteria. Realistically, I can't think of one ultra-conservative who could run and win in the current political climate. Our losses in this last election prove that.

Quit knocking the Baptist. If it had not been for Baptist leadership, there would have been no President Ronald Reagan.

Sorry - I was knocking the local mountain baptists (here is SC) where snakes are used - and the let's just say - family relationships are very very close.

Big ears - if you know what I mean.

You're right - I generalized - sorry about that.

Wants to strip peoples constitutional rights? Your truly nuts! Completely out of your friggen mind.

So stripping my 2nd ammendment rights doesn't qualify? Dude, get a clue before you spout of. And as for reagan & bush stopping abortion, no they didn't, but at least they didn't want clinics popping up like Dunkin Donuts shops like Rudy would love. Yeah, how'd you like a baby murder mill on your street, huh?

I've done the research, and while slightly better than a democrat, rudy would be a very bad thing as president of the USA. Really bad!

To paraphase the great Ronaldus Maximus, "I did not leave the Republican party, they left me." This is my new tagline if Rino Rudy wins the nomination.

RRudy is anti-gun. It's the second amendment, which rudy would piss all over. How can he be trusted if he doesn't even believe in the constitution?

Oh, I know - I just thought you might wish to be pinged should he try to defend his ludicrous statement.

How is removing the second, not third, or any after, but the SECOND amendment rights of Americans not stripping constitutional rights?

Wow.

Listen - come on now - your 2nd amendment rights are safe - I promise you - no one is going to take guns away from you - unless you forfeit the you rights under law. Do you honestly think the 2nd amendment is in jeopardy? You don't that just hyperbole.

As for abortion rights - I am pro-life - however I believe this issues starts and end in the home - in the way you raise your children - in the church you attend. This battle will only be won when life is precious to all - and that is a tough chore.

The world is full of people who dismiss life.

I believe that after 9/11 Rudy's respect for life - all life - has changed - I think you will hear this from him in the future.

Just give the man a chance - your vote is your own. But don't forefit it.
