Rudy's A Down-Hil Racer In Prez Poll (Marist Poll)
NY Daily News ^ | 12/08/06

Hillary may have the buzz, but Rudy has the better poll numbers - at least for now.

A new WNBC/Marist College survey yesterday found that while Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is the most popular presidential option among Democrats, a whopping 47% of all voters say they would "definitely not" vote for the former First Lady if she runs for President in 2008.

By contrast, a full two-thirds of voters say they remain open to voting for former Mayor Rudy Giuliani - who would best Clinton, 49% to 43%, if the 2008 race were held today.

The numbers suggest that the Republican Giuliani - whose pre-9/11 record remains a blank to most voters - has room to grow, while Clinton begins with nearly half the electorate aligned against her, experts said.

"The bottom line is that there is very little room for error in a Hillary-for-President campaign," says Marist College pollster Lee Miringoff.

Not that Giuliani is without challenges.

The poll found that while Giuliani remains the top pick among GOP voters, a full 47% of those voters - when told that Giuliani is pro-choice, pro-gun control and pro-gay rights - say such issues could be a "major factor" in their eventual decision.

Aides to Giuliani declined to comment on the numbers, but Clinton pollster Mark Penn argued that Clinton has consistently proven she can expand her base of supporters.

"When she started in New York, many people said they'd never vote for her - and she just won reelection with 67% of the electorate," said Penn.

Rino Rudy is a born loser in 2008.

I am continually amazed that FISCAL conservatives are always forced to compromise between the lesser of two evils, but SOCIAL conservatives get a free pass to act like spoiled children.

I'm convinced that it is impossible to reason with people who place emotion before reason.

I guess you will have to stay in the home and read a book.

But no ice cream for you on election night...

You will see a repeat of 2006, whne a lot of the social conservatives and evanglelicals stayed home

WRONG - Conservatives did not stay home - It was the moderates and Independents who voted Democrat that screwed it for Republicans in 2006. Alienating them like we did will only make them vote Democrat in 2008 again. We cannot win a presidential election without them. They sit on the fence until the last minute and then make the deciding vote. Neither Republicans Nor Democrats have enough votes to win without them.

Well sorry, but I will vote my conscience. And my conscience will not let me vote for a pro abortion, anti gun, pro gay rino like Rudy. You have to earn my vote and he can't.

EXACTLY.

This past election, lost women and young voters to the Democrats in droves.

I think you are wrong. But be that as it may, if Rino Rudy is the nominee you will see the social conservatives and Evangelicals bolt the party. Some will stay home, some will do as I plan to and go third party. Either way the republicans lose with Rino Rudy. We need someone else.

Well sorry, but I will vote my conscience.

I completely understand, so that's all good.

But when I consider *all* of the issues facing this country in the next century, I'm fully prepared to hold my nose one more time and vote for long-term success.

True. Now we have to win them back. I believe Rudy appeals to Conservatives as well as Moderates. He an also appeal to the Blue Dog Democrats which will devastate the Democrats.

We are reaching the point with Rino Rudy that the lessor of 2 evils is so evil that the differences are so slight that it does not matter.

Have I ever said that I was a fan of Pat Robertson? No, I have not. Stop being so silly.
