I must admit that I've done a bit of a 180 on this issue in the past week or so.
In the past two weeks, I have been told by DirecTV that I cannot view Detroit Red Wings games from Ohio UNLESS I purchase their $170+ sports subscription package. I am not allowed by the FCC to received FSN Detroit, which is what most of the Wings games are broadcast on. I also found out that while I can receive FSN Cincinnati (which is fine), I can't get Cavalier games, for example, on FSN Ohio because I'm 5 miles too far to the west.
This is insane.
I think it's absolutely STUPID to prevent a paying customer in Ohio from receiving FSN Detroit over the Satellite system.
He still shouldn't be going after the NFL. He should instead go after the stupidity of the FCC Rules.
Rant over.
That's what he should do, but that would make too much sense.
Are you sure those are FCC rules? That sounds a lot like over-the-air broadcast rules to me. Sounds more like FSN/DirecTV issues.
The FCC needs to butt out a lot more.
I buy the MLB package and even paying the $200 or so I get games blacked out for the Red Sox even though I have NESN and MLB. Has something to do with broadcast rules for Washington DC/Baltimore
The whole system sucks
