TEHRAN, Iran — "What do we want? Freedom!"

That was one of the banners a large crowd waved on Wednesday at a demonstration at Tehran University.

As many as 2,000 students turned out to demand personal freedom in the Islamic state, which has cracked down on political activity on campus this year in what some have called the Second Cultural Revolution.

The theme of Wednesday's protest was Student Life is Alive.

The police apparently made no effort to stop the demonstration, which ended peacefully.

One banner, in Persian, read: "If I rise up and you rise up, everyone will rise up."

"As many as 2,000 students turned out to demand personal freedom in the Islamic state"

Pathetic

"The police apparently made no effort to stop the demonstration, which ended peacefully."

Judging from all the "excitement" generated, am not surprised the cops didn't even see the need for a crackdown.

Do the Iranian people WANT the US or Israel to nuke them? Cause their lethargy or complacency with their ruling nutcas mullahs might cause that to come to pass unless they stop them internally.

I hope we are doing every dirty trick possible to encourage revolution in Iran. If the Iranian mullahs fall, the whole Middle East equation just got a lot simpler.

I am again, praying for the day, when sanity wins out over religious dogma of the dark ages, in some parts of the world. I swear, I thought this was already won. Islam is shunting backwards towards catastrophe, and dragging the modern world with it. Say it ain't so!

Bush was naive in re to iraqi democracy, will he now be just as naive in re to this student uprising? It's one thing to mouth off with a protest sign, quite another to DIE for iranian freedom. We'll see just how SERIOUS these iranian students are, but they had better DO IT before israel comes for their nucs...and the clock is...tic...tic...tic....ing.

Since it was Iranian Student Protesters that started this entire mess, it's the least they can do.

",......???? Isn't that how the last Iranian Revolution got started????????"

Only if you can also count on direct support from the French, idiotic complacency by the USA, and a well funded, determined, politically correct, and charismatic leader waiting to be repatriated just after the former leader was whisked away to die in an 'allied' country.

If all those things exist today, go for it.
Otherwise, the Iranian 'students' seem not to have a clue about what it takes to force change; they want to wave signs, hold their breath, and get what they want - just like it works in the USA.

And, if I'm wrong in the long run, I'll be just happy as hell.
