They have no idea how the politicians back home have betrayed them.

Sure they do. FReepers love to treat the troops like innocent children who can't be exposed to scary things like certain words or discussions. It's meant in a good way, but it's as deeply patronizing as calling them 'kids' or 'boys'. Anyone who's ever been downrange knows that troops are actutely aware of political changes in the States, and discuss them in very blunt and honest terms.

Baker ran from the battlefield, too afraid to finish the job. That he dares to be on a committee to criticize this President is the height of arrogance on his part.

We win. They lose.

No base for terrorists. Iraqis happy. ARab-Muslims go "Hey! I don't have to go kill myself for holy [preemptive self zot]. I could just live a normal life and not be an emo jihadi loser. Then I don't have to die to get a girl!" Imitate Iraq.

The one question a reporter impressed me with to the ISG was,"why should the President give more weight to their report than the Generals on the ground?". The group really was stunned at the question and couldn't give a clear answer.

Many of you people act just like liberals when somebody disagrees with you.

Sound like E.Cliff : shut up, leave, be quiet. yell louder your arguments are comprehensive of your intellect.

Our young men and women deserve better than to be in a conflict that has been written off by the politicos.
That's ok for you keyboard commandos sitting in your offices and watching these brave Americans die for a war the politicians are turning into Vietnam. Prepare for "peace with honor" while another 2000 die in the next two years until we leave.

Senseless, Useless, a waste of life.

From a soldier just back from Iraq regarding Iraq Study Group report >>>>

"We cannot appease our enemies and we cannot continue to cut and run when the going gets tough. As it stands in the world right now our enemies view America as a country full of queasy people who are inclined to cut and run when things take a turn for the worse. Just as the Tet Offensive was the victory that led to our failure in Vietnam our victories in Iraq now are leading to our failure in the Middle East. How many more times must we fight to fail? I feel like all of my efforts (30 months of deployment time) and the efforts of all my brothers in arms are all for naught. I thought old people were supposed to be more patient than a 24 year old but apparently I have more patience for our victory to unfold in Iraq than 99.9 percent of Americans. Iraq isn’t fast food-you can’t have what you want and have it now. To completely change a country for the first time in it’s entire history takes time, and when I say time I don’t mean 4 years.

Talking doesn’t solve anything with a crazed people, bullets do and we need to be given a chance to work our military magic. Like I told a reporter buddy of mine: War sucks but a world run by Islamofacists sucks more."

I remember once in the 90's when our Company commander told us we may not get paid because Congress failed to pass a budget. He said we still had to come to formation and work and asked us to stockpile food for the soldiers who had kids.

We were paying attention to politics, no doubt about it. And had some unpleasant things to say about the political process.

Apparently he's spoken on all those particular things and if he hasn't recently his administration has detailed all of that information.

I wish Bush would stress more the sacrifice of the Iraqi people, security forces, and leaders who are, along with their families, the targets of assassination. The Baker study, the Dems, and the MSM make the Iraqis the scapegoat. They create the impression that the Iraqis are not doing enough. In point of fact, they are bearing the major burden of the struggle.

Why should he spend every media opportunity constantly going over the same material?

It is not the same material, but expanding and detailing what is going on. Why doesn't the President use the bully pulpit to state the successes, e.g., more electricity and oil are being produced than before the war, better and improved water supplies, more roads, etc. Let him show where the violence is ocurring and the fact that most of the country of Iraq is peaceful. The violence needs to be placed in some context.

We will not back down. Strategy change guaranteed but we will not and can not leave before the Iraqi's can hold their own. It's time that we assure them of that so that those in leadership will not seek aid from those we fight.

That remains to be seen. The politicians cut off funding to the South Vietnamese and allowed the North to violate the Paris Peace Accords and invade the South without any response. Political expediency makes strange bedfellows. The more Iraq is portrayed as a mistake, that we are losing, and that a civil way is happening, the less support the public will provide.

Bush has responded to that pressure by firing Rumsfeld. Will he continue to concede to political pressures? The Baker study group has developed a momentum all of its own, similar to the 9/11 Commission, which still is issuing scorecards on its recommendations. The Dems used it as an election issue saying that one of the first things they will do is implement all of the recommendations [they have retreated somewhat from that pledege as it applies to the structure of Congressional committees] and I suspect the Baker study group will be used similarly.

The Dems now control Congress. They will set the agenda and what is investigated. Look for Congress to take the lead aided by the MSM to show that Iraq was a mistake and that huge amounts of resources are being wasted and stolen. Congress will create an even more negative portrayal of what is going on in Iraq. The pressure will become even greater to pull our troops out sooner rather than later.

I only wish Bush could express himself to American people better at this critical stage.

No. You should wish....... that the presstitutes were not Bush-haters. President Bush speaks just fine to Americans when he has the opportunity to speak to them directly - some of us understand exactly where he is coming from. Others don't want to know or understand.

Enough political correctness, its time to do whatever it takes to win in Iraq.

I am ready for that myself.

Our young men and women deserve better than to be in a conflict that has been written off by the politicos.

That's true. The best tribute to them is to actually win, however, in spite of the Democrats.

That's ok for you keyboard commandos sitting in your offices and watching these brave Americans die for a war the politicians are turning into Vietnam. Prepare for "peace with honor" while another 2000 die in the next two years until we leave.

One can either surrender to the Left or fight them. You would rather surrender in order to minimise the loss, although that would embolden America's enemies and mean many more good young people would die later. The Left needs to be faced down now, and the war needs to be won - giving up, bailing out, will not achieve this.

I completely agree with you about the toughness of the troops, and their resolve, and their understanding of what is really going on in this war, as opposed to the garbage the left, and the mission bashing freepers are dishing out.

I know you're not the most sensitive soul, Steel, but have you ever considered that a lot of Freepers have family members in Iraq, and some have even lost their own kids (yes, 'kids') in this very noble cause?

Honest discussion is one thing, but mission bashing is quite another. Don't think that the troops........at least the younger ones........aren't negatively affected by the betrayal of the politicians, and the leftist pacifists and far right isolationists. And don't think that the families who are sacrificing haven't been hurt deeply by what has happened to the support of the mission here on FR.

This discussion could be held with respect for the troops and their families, and it would accomplish far more.

I don't think that's too much to ask of decent people.

Agreed. The Dems and the MSM have successfully separated Iraq from the WOT. We have the "good" war in Afghanistan and the "war of choice" in Iraq. We even have Bill Clinton encouraging the sending more US troops to Afghanistan.

"If we have no victory now our children's future is at stake."

The future of our children is at stake if we continue to allow Muslim immigration and flattering those already in the country.

Of course not. The Cold War ended. So will this one.

Ok, so what will trigger the end? This uncertanty is the essential problem with why the majority of Americans believe that a change is required.
