Some History on ACLU II
Courting Disaster | 2004 | Pat Robertson

Posted on 12/07/2006 7:33:55 AM PST by Nancee

"Whenever you hear abouts courts overturning laws and making judgments that undermine the foundations of American culture, you don't have to look far to see who's behind it. More often than not you'll find the ACLU, which has been a wrecking ball in the American culture for more than eighty years.....the ACLU has never been a friend to those who cherish civil liberties. In case after case, left-wing lawyers recruited by the ACLU are on the offensive, attacking every expression of faith, independence, and traditional values they can find--often under the guise of a 'separation of church and state' that never existed.

"Where the ACLU really excels, however, is in cases making claims under the First and Fourteenth Amendments, where the ACLU can do the most damage. Cases involving free-speech issues under the First Amendment, and due process or equal-access claims under the Fourteenth, are the ones that end up most often in the Supreme Court,...As just an example of the harm they've done, in June 1997, the ACLU claimed major credit for their Supreme Court defeat of the Communications Decency Act, which had been passed by Congress in order to restrict display and avilability of pronographic materials on the internet.

That same year, ACLU lawyers in Chicago managed to get an injunction to stop drug searches in the city's high-crime, inner-city housing projects, claiming that the searches were a violation of tenants' rights. Consider the logic of such a ruling in a city that had the highest violent crime rate of the eight largest cities in America. In 1998 alone, Chicago had 703 homicides, nearly double the murder rate in New York City....but the courts ignored...that and held for the ACLU. And the list goes on..."

Thank you!

I wish I had known this before. The other day, I posted a similar thread, and no one pointed this out to me. Is there a difference somehow? I'd like to know so I can avoid mistakes like this in the future.

"Are you going to create a ping on Free Republic?"

I would if I knew how, but I am definitely electronically challenged. There are many things I would love to be able to do, including links, and pings, and all of the pictures and little symbols. I just have to learn how to go about these things. If I do learn how and do start a ping list, I'll let you know.

Then again, you could do it if you want you.

"I am for socialism, disarmament, and ultimately, for abolishing the state itself... I seek social ownership of property, the abolition of the properties class, and sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal. I don't regret being part of the communist tactic. I knew what I was doing. I was not an innocent liberal. I wanted what the communists wanted, and I traveled the United Front road to get it.”

"You put this exact quote on the previous posting I made only a couple of days ago. Are you simply helping me out here, or do advocate that which Roger Baldwin did?

That's my standard post to any ACLU thread. I'm merely pointing out to folks what a founder of the ACLU said he stands for. The quote makes it clear what the ACLU is about.
