Why Conservatives Lose

Posted on 12/07/2006 4:38:42 AM PST by wgflyer

Liberals drives the agenda for talk radio. That is because talk radio is current event driven and current events are chosen by liberals. The standard series of events is that liberals make a stupid claim, or a stupid law, or a stupid protest, and talk radio spends the bulk of it’s time debunking it. And all the while, the MSM continue spouting the trash.

When conservatives try to drive the agenda they find themselves fighting an uphill battle even within their own group. Ann Coulter’s book Treason is a good example. The book contains in it enough ammunition to put liberals on the defensive for years to come, all by itself. The potential debate made possible by this book is huge, and damaging to liberals. But talk radio patronized it for a couple of days, gave Ms. Coulter a couple of interviews and dropped the whole thing. Not another word. MSM dumped the subject as quickly as possible.

So goes it with all the wonderful books written by conservatives. They contain enough insight to take the ball and move it into the enemy’s playing field, but conservatives lack momentum. Liberals in the MSM make a snide comment and drop it entirely, countering with another feint guaranteed to put conservatives back on the defensive...(abortion, homosexuality, the crime of the week, for example) and conservatives respond immediately in rage or defense. Always in defense.

Conservatives hate the current tax system, but there are a number of tax alternatives out there. On occasion the subject comes up, but usually only in response to some new liberal tax proposal. When a book comes out on tax reform the author makes the rounds, then the subject is dropped. Conservative talk radio goes back on the defensive. If tax reform was debated constantly on talk radio the subject would change from “is reform necessary” to “which reform do we choose”. When subjects or events reach a certain fervor on talk radio the MSM is forced to respond. At that point we have them (Dan Rather, John Kerry).

Imagine how liberals would respond to published links of liberals in government to cold war russia, or exposure of communist party memberships. When Teddy (the aquatic drunk) Kennedy makes one of his unintelligible speeches, how about following with a week of dissection of the Kopecne saga and his subsequent corruption.

This stuff works, if verifiable truth is spoken.

Conservatism will only win against liberalism when liberals are the ones forced to spend all their energy reacting to and defending off conservative attacks. If, as has been the case, the attacks from the right are fully based in truth, then liberals will have little defense other than loud whining and foul language. Liberals defend themselves very poorly and no one can marginalize a liberal like a liberal. Al Franken is the perfect example.

Conservatives also lose when they try to act like liberals.

I think Conservatives have less time to engage:

They work hard at their jobs

They spend time with larger families

They enjoy life in a way that Liberals (so many of them are single, gay, childless, divorced, anxiety ridden, and in the moonbat activist phase, insane)
have yet to experience...

Conservatives may never again be a viable party.

There are not two conservatives that agree with each other .

All LIBERALs agree with each other.

Convince everyone that the MSM is the marketing arm of the DNC and has nothing to do with News or Journalism and you have a chance.

Until then, the MSM will continue to control the most powerful marketing channels known to man and conservatives will remain on the defensive until the end of time.

Conservatives lost because the 'toon machine and rahm emanuel created foleygate, which took an 11 point generic ballot lead and turned it into a 24 point deficit in three days. Postulate all you want, but foleygate undid all of the good we accomplished in the past 2 years debunking "culture of corruption", who knew and when, and every other evil dims tried to project on us.

If we had counter attacked and publicly accused pelosi and company of fabricating lies... had we released their names and demanded these pages come forward publicly, it could have been different. Instead we had leaders turning on the party and pointing fingers at each other.

And that is exactly why we need one or more news networks that are truly conservative... that report the news from a conservative perspective.

It was an assassination, every bit as shocking as the polonium 2 used by Putin. No employer could ever get away with firing someone based on allegations of legal activity outside the workplace like that. It's the drive by media where no one has any rights. Maybe you have noticed that neighther Fl or Feds have come up with any allegations of Foley lawbreaking. Maybe, the main issue in our time should be reining in the reckless media who think their first amendment rights trumps all other peoples' rights.

Conservatives also lose when they try to act like liberals.

I'll be sure to mention that to Rick Santorum and George Allen.

I'd prefer objectivity. I don;t want to be pandered to any more than I want to be insulted.

You make some good points.

Objective journalism is a myth that the behemoth 'mainstream' media likes to perpetuate. However, balanced journalism is all that would be necessary to break the stranglehold that the Left has on our culture and society.

The only media outlet that seems even remotely interested in presenting balanced reporting is the Fox News Channel. But, it is only one small venue for fair reporting--against the shear size, scope and reach of what in reality is--the 'media wing' of the democrat party.

It will take generations to change journalism and the media culture in America.

The dirty little secret is that conservatives still watch the MSM in droves and are addicted to it.

They also continue to believe the lies the MSM feeds them. Witness Foley and all the garbage about the so-called corrupt bribe-takers in the GOP (didn't only one Repub go to jail...some "wide-spread" scandal!)

The MSM caused conservative voters to not vote. They still have incredible power over conservative minds.

Two conservatives agree on one subject?

That's it, conservative verses moderates seems to be the norm today.
The Republican Party is now divided into these two classification and, soon to be a majority of moderates.

If you doubt this, read and, watch some of the posting here at FR.

Your assessment is accurate though not inclusive of all the reasons we lost. You forgot:

1. An education system that doesn't teach critical thinking thus creating a populace vulnerable to "sound bite" politics. “Bush lied and people died”! We home school our 4 children for this very reason.

2. A large and growing elderly entitlement class that will vote largely democrat because that's how they're living right now - handouts from the government. Wait til Medicare goes bust, think your taxes are high now!

3. Rock star status seeking politicians who have no backbone and are the antithesis of a citizen legislator. I worked on the "Hill" in the mid-eighties under the, shall we say less than inspiring "leadership" of Bob Michael - the minority leader. Until Newt came along, we deserved everything we received from Jim Wright and crew.

4. An incessant drumbeat of multi-culturism as the operative value defining American greatness. The real truth is that America wasn’t great because of our diversity rather; America has been great IN SPITE of our diversity. Why? Because we rallied around American ideals, not divided over our cultural differences. We now see diversity as the be-all-end-all of cultural values.

5. An academia that ridicules people of faith and works overtime and tearing down conservative values. Those of us who grew up in the 60's and 70's are fully aware of moral relativism we were spoon fed. For those who didn't press the issue any further, they now embrace a "your truth is your truth and my truth is mine".

6. When we as a society condoned the killing of 50 million babies through abortion, do we think God will simply look the other way? Does He grade on a sliding scale? The sound bite “and may God continue to bless our country” is getting a bit tiresome and absurd when politician A closes his speech. God loves the redistribution of wealth and blesses those who do. He blesses those who rack up 8.6 TRILLION DOLLARS in debt. He looks favorably on those who ordain gay marriage and blesses those who give more rights to the criminals than protections to victims. He honors those who seek to exert power over others for personal gain. C'mon, give me a break. He may not be punishing us, but it's absurd to think He's blessing us. There was a time He did, but since we've spent the last 4 decades jettisoning Him from the culture, do we really think He's looking down at us and saying - good job guys?

I’m sure others have many more reasons; these 5 are just a few off the top of my head.

Any others?
